We get a lot of 'best/worst/brag' threads.

This one is for the story/series that you, as the author, feel doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Which is your favourite story/series that isn't your highest-scoring most-favourited? Which story/series do you think showcases your best writing, has bits you really like, but inexplicably seems short of reads?

I'll try to read as many of the stories posted here as I can, and maybe some other folk will too. After all, there's no one better than the author to tell you where the best stuff is, right? That's a win for everyone.

If the thread hits 100 replies I'll promote my own unappreciated contribution (I bet you can hardly wait).

ETA: links, please :)

I'm very proud of my latest story, Pornville.

https://literotica.com/s/pornville

And it's got a very nice rating.

That said, no one really read it. It started strong on day one, then just dropped off the map.

By the second day it was already buried on page three.

I try not to complain about these things; it's the way it works here. I can't FORCE people to read it.

I was just hoping it would find a larger audience.

But oh, well.

Siblings with Benefits. A long dark twisted romance that touches on a lot or real life shit, which is why it was never widely read. Its scores are all good because it was a long series and had a small loyal readership. It's rough on grammar and technical being the first thing I ever wrote( go big or go home from the start) but it has some of my best writing and story telling. Its not a series, its an event.

When I look back on it-this was written from 201-2011-I'm glad I hadn't come to the forums yet and had the ability to tune everything out as far as numbers go and just do my thing because even then it was frustrating to be pouring so much effort and emotion to tell the story I wanted to and see 50 votes and a few comments per chapter(in the sites biggest category) meanwhile stories like "hey, my sister has big boobs" were getting killer numbers.

I’m going to mention my story Debrief. Clarke the Commando has to rescue an Arabian celebrity from terrorists and ends up losing his career through no fault of his own and dealing with PTSD. I screwed up a lot with that story, wrote way outside my comfort zones, tried to put in a realistic yet fictional depiction of war and social commentary on it. Also did satire on terrorism, religious extremism, and other controversial topics. It was a mess. Still is. But some people like it. I’d be thrilled if you joined their ranks.

For me, it's this little piece: Their Summer in France

It's a collaboration with @stickygirl, and includes some of the best lyrical writing from each of us. Because it's a collaboration, it may be a little disjointed, and I'm guessing the Romance readers couldn't quite handle the sex (not their usual vanilla). It's only 2800 words, so it's a quick read.

These two stories published earlier in the year were an attempt at simple, genuine back-to-basics writing.

The Cellist
After the Party

I published both on the same day in Erotic Couplings and neither of them got more than 2.5k views, the lowest of any of my stories (not including an essay and a couple of jokes). One got an H - with the other one, the score of 4.3 might well be fair or even generous, but it would have been nice for it to get more than 16 votes.

As a result, my next story ditched earnestness for psychedelic tentacle prostitution...(and that did get reads.)

Read the Cellist. 5'd it. Interesting read. Classical isn't my thing, really. But I appreciated the detail of it.

I have a series with a weird premise - film noir mysteries where the mysteries involve a lot of ravishment and the detective frequently gets ravished in the course of solving them.

The Maltese Kitty
The Hard Kiss Goodnight
Farewell, My Sweet

I think they have good setting and character work as well as some fun lines, and I do my best to make the mysteries work, too. The stories get good views, but are all among my lower-rated. Maybe some readers just don't want to masturbate in black and white.

@Altissimus, did you make this thread SPECIFICALLY FOR ME?

Just so I could mention...
*Drumroll*
ELTRICH PACT

*the crowd collectively rolls its eyes* 🙄

"Step right up, ladies and gents! Don't be scared! Get it now, while it's hot!"

(All jokes aside, The Price of Embezzlement Ch. 01 which only posted a few days ago, already has more views than E.P. {and E.P. was part of the Geek Pride event })

I've been very fortunate and all my stories have been well received.

I'm sure it sounds ridiculous to say that a story with a 4.81 score is under-appreciated, but I still get a fair number of favorites and comments on most of my older stuff, and I get less on The Gold Dollar Girls than I would expect.

And that's too bad, because it's very personal to me, and I really love the characters.

I don't see it that way at all. 'Under-appreciated' is subjective to us as the authors. I mean, yes, if it also came with 99.4k reads, 486 favs and 126 comments I might feel your need is not so great as some others in the thread, but your perception is what counts.

Exactly this.

How about me and my supreme wonderfulness? We could talk about my excellent humor and brilliant observations. We might dwell on my beauty and grace. Delve deep into my quirky and twisted musings.

On second thought, scratch all that. Like most geniuses, I won't be appreciated until I'm cold and rotting in my grave.

The implication being that all of you is overlooked?

I'm struggling to see how that could be at all possible ;)
