The one off PMs.

I keep getting these PMs. When I get them I assume the person wishes to converse with me so I send one back (with a question to show that I'd be interested in a further discussion). More often than not I don't get another one.

So are they really just letting me know that they think I'm funny, or that they just want to make sure I cleared up that problem I was having with my computer or tv or whatever and they don't actually want to hear back from me?

Without posting the pm, what is the subject/reason for the pm? I've sent PMs for lots of reasons, most of the time I get a reply (which can then lead to the dreaded how to end the contact gracefully), but I can't imagine not replying to the PM that replied to my PM. Huh?

Are we talking the "Hey Babe, how about it?" type of PMs? Or actually about something specific - like one of your posts?

I'm guessing those PMs are from people who don't visit here often (ie they send out a few PMs and never return to see if anyone replied because they got distracted on another sexy-forum with lots of other people to randomly PM)
or
They PM SO many people that they simply can't reply to everyone who responds to their PM.
or
They PM'd you by mistake
or
They PM'd you and changed their mind about wanting to know more about you
or something like that.

The internet is a place where many people feel free - too much so at times - and can end up hurting people by mistake.

So, don't feel bad, Human Male. People can be jerks at times.

I'm not upset or anything, just a bit perplexed.

I don't want to be specific because I don't want the person to know I'm talking about them. But the PMs I get are along the lines of "You're funny." "I liked what you said in that post." "Merry Christmas." "Did you sort out the trouble you were having with computer or whatever?" When it happens I assume (rather arrogantly I suppose) that it's an excuse to talk to me. So I write back and am confused when I don't hear from them. Either I stuff it up or it's one of the things Perth said.

But maybe this is a common practice and I just don't know.

How do you get those PMs? I could use some of those.
