Amelias thread on the first day of kindergarten gave me an idea - yeah, another poll from STG.

We have had polls/threads asking people if they would want to go back to being a child again, or some variation thereof, but it occurs to me that this would depend on how old you are; that once you get into your 40s/50s/60s, the older you get the more you would want to be young again. When you are in your 20s and even 30s, the bad memories are still fresh, you are still young and healthy and you are enjoying your independence and freedom.

So, answer the poll and let's see if my theory is true.

I dunno, there things about my past I wish I could change or had gone differently, but all of my experiences ahve helped make me the person I am now, and I've come to like who I am now pretty well. So, no.

I'll be 39 tomorrow. I wouldn't mind being 27 again, with all of my experience, wisdom and knowledge in place, of course. I voted that I would not want to be younger though.

I wish I could go back to tell that girl she looked fabulous. I'd erase every moment of self-hate.

Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

I can agree with the sentiment, but you are still fairly young - give yourself another 20-30 years.

At a certain point in life, I think most people will get to the point where their health is degrading to the point that rather than face further degradation and eventual death, given the choice, they would want to go back to being a child, even if it meant losing everything they had now.

I'm 29. I wouldn't mind being 18 again tho. I think this time around tho I'd want to be a little less naive about certain things. There's times I still feel about 14 and it frustrates the hell out of me.

maybe the older you get, the older the definition of "kid" gets as well. you know, like how they say middle age is always fifteen years older than you are now.

i'm 45, and really enjoying being the person i am now. put me down as a "been there, done that" kinda guy.

I am 27 yrs old and I would not want to go back.
I don't think that much about my age , unless its my birthday.:D
But, I am fine just the way I am right now... I am happy. :)

Hell no, and that's speaking as someone with considerable health problems. I don't want to be younger, I want to be healthy. Otherwise youth can stuff it. Health and energy are the only real bonuses to being a kid. I would have to give up all of my personal freedoms, all of my knowledge and experience, all of the adult pleasures I've come to enjoy, and all my reputation and credibility. Hell no.

I wouldn't want to go back to being a kid myself.. I've gone through enough going into adulthood that I'd rather not go through that again.

Although like Ruby, I would love to go back in time and give the younger me a pep talk on how he does in fact kick ass despite what anyone else says.

And I'd tell him for god sake to do his homework.. The parents aren't lying when they say you'll need it in the future!

I understand, I wouldn't want to give up my independence either, but I figure I would eventually get back to that point sooner or later anyway, and in the process I would gain another 50 years of life (I am almost 50 now).

Kids today have a lot more freedom and independence than I did when a kid was someone to seen and not heard. In some ways kids don't have as much freedom - for the most part they are not allowed to roam as free as when I was a kid, for fear of their safety, but they are given more independence, they learn things sooner, and generally have a better life.

All I would really want if I was to do it all over again, if I had to forget everything I have learned as a person, would be some way to communicate to my new self a sense of confidence and a relaxed attitude - that I was quite capable of doing things, to not take what adults say so seriously and literally, and have more fun even if it got me into trouble.

For a chance to do it again and not piss away my potential on stupid crap, maybe. I look at most of my life so far as such a waste.

I'm 41 and at a place in my life that is wonderful. I would not go back no way no how.....I'm having more fun now then ever!

I'll be 31 on Thursday and while I wouldn't want to go back to being a kid, I wouldn't mind staying 30.

I'm 22 and I wouldn't want to be a kid again - childhood was hell for me, and I only really started enjoying life when I was around 16.
Hope this trend continues :D

I think if you're older you want to be younger...

But it's not the way the subject says it is.

An 80-year-old does not want to be a fetus again.
A 90-year-old does not want to be in sperm form again.
A 100-year old doesn't long for his single cellular days.
