The Official Authors' Hangout Valentine's Day 2020 Support Thread.

Thanks, Ogg. This is a much better graphic, even though she appears to be ticked off. Whomever has left her alone may be in danger of losing Valentine status.

I have one story that's essentially done, I look it over once a day and tweak it a bit. I have a much more ambitious story that's in danger of not meting the deadline.

I'm still slowly working through the critical transition point of mine. If I can get through this, the rest should come together in a flash. I've got a new, much stronger ending for it as well.

I'm pondering which category I can honorably submit it in. It's probably closest to EC, but I don't like submitting there very much, so I'm trying to figure out whether I can justify a better category.

Once I do, I'll throw that sucker in.

I'm wondering the same thing. Probably a choice between EC and Mature, and I'm leaning Mature.

If you have an age difference, I'd say Mature over EC every time.

"I'll say," said Suzie, linking her arm through EB's.

Finished mine far enough in advance to give it a proper edit for once, but I'm not finding a whole lot I want to change. Might submit later today after one more read-through.

I'm not fond of EC either, but contest stories in EC have done fairly well. I think maybe the EC voters ignore them, and most of the votes come from contest readers.

Are there even any dedicated EC voters? I've always thought of EC as a catch-all category for anything that doesn't really fit anywhere else.

I don't think so. It's too much a grab bag with no obvious kink focus. Plus, so many stories get published in EC that they fall off the new story hub in one or two days and lose their exposure.

Yeah, Mature is my favorite category; this one has an age difference, but it's slight and NOT the main focus of the story.

I'll try to shoehorn stories into more desirable categories within reason, but I just wouldn't feel right Maturing this one. I might be able to get by with Ex/Voy, but even that's a stretch.

Darn.

Maybe there are dedicated readers there, maybe not. I think a lot of stories by writers who have English as a second language go there, and they have followers.

A lot of stories are posted to EC, but there aren't enough readers to bring the views and votes up to the level of other large categories. The results on my stories posted there are erratic.

But contest stories have fared well.

Ah ha! I thought so. She kept saying something about helping the Ozzies with their fires before she disappeared. Now I know that was just code for something else.
It is. As soon as I wrote that reply, an idea for another 750 word story popped into my head. Suzie and Adam - I'm sure she won't mind ;).

I made progress today on the second story, which would go in Mature. The main unfinished part is a major scene in the middle. When finished, the story figures to be 8k to 9k words.

Both stories have title problems. The finished story has a title which is dreadful. The unfinished story has no title at all.

Ohhhhh I just started today. Immigrant Chinese girl who wants to live the American dream - become valedictorian, become a cheerleader and lose her virginity on Valentine’s Day in a football team gangbang coz she thinks Debbie Does Dallas is what every all-American girl aspires to...... and her immigrant parents encourage her to live the dream....

In addition to writing your next novel for this contest, I reckon you should also submit a 750 word story. If I can get Suzie out of her dress and knickers in a sentence, so can you (she only had five buttons though, I wasn't going to make it too hard ;)).

This is a great idea, but it seems a bit insufficiently ambitious for a Chloe Tzang story. You've got to throw in some time travel, and Chinese Girl exploring her sexual side with the Mongol hordes, in fertility rituals among the Incas in the time of Pizarro's invasion, and in camps built for the development of the Transcontinental Railroad, and throw in some extended discussion of the invention of the lightbulb, and how Thomas Edison originally intended to use it for kinky purposes but was persuaded otherwise because of his competition with Tesla. You need at least four supporting characters who speak languages other than English, all different, and one of is a Pyrenean sheep herder/UN translator who has recruited Chinese Girl to help him translate Fifty Shades of Grey into Basque (it's a tough language to learn, but you still have 10 days before the time to submit your story so you should be OK) and having a hell of a time concentrating because of an invasion of space aliens that look like sheep. That's a start, anyway. I'm sure it will be great, and you'll have no problem wrapping it up before the deadline.

Corrected it for ya!
