The Official Authors' Hangout Valentine's Day 2020 Support Thread.

Thank you for this, this is what I needed to hear. The story is sad because it reflects life and how two people are not always ready to be together so thank you for that.

The coauthored story (shabbu's "The Forever Man") that won the Valentine's Day contest in 2018 had a bittersweet ending, with a long, bittersweet lead into it.

Sound real and relatable. Bittersweet seems to be popular themes in songs, movies and novels. Good luck on the contest. The biggest benefit is the exposure to new readers you'll get.

Valentines Day Virgin

This sounds wonderful, thank you for the heads up! I'm new to the contests- never entered one before- so I was just wondering, what are the parameters?
Is it a single story or multiple chapters? If a single story, is there a limit on the amount of words/length? And finally, how do we apply for this when the time comes?

Thank you!!

A stand alone story only, no word limit. Go back to the first page of this thread for instructions.

What ElectricBoy...oops; I mean, what ElectricBlue said is good.

It might also be helpful for you to go take a peek at Laurel's most recent notice for the Winter Holiday contest for some additional general contest steps/rules. Here's a link -> https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=1512408

As EB said, single story only. Length does not seem to be a factor. Two of my longest stories were contest entries — they didn't win but I was pleased with the responses. I think after reading the linked notice you'll have the info you need on the 'how to submit' part of the project. But don't hesitate to ask on this thread if you still have questions.

I took a peek at your story list, can't wait to read about your take on the perfect Valentine's Day gift ;)

I am worried about what I wrote for this contest. It is in fact a valentines story but its not exactly a happy one. This is my first time trying to enter so I am sure that has something to do with my nerves. Traditionally do less than happy stories do ok?

Uh, yes. They can do very well indeed. Read the 2019 Valentines Day winner and if you’re not crying by the end, I’ll buy you a coffee (no clues as to who wrote the winning story now.....) But seriously, sad stories with hot sex do well. Guys like tearjerkers too. Go figure, I had no idea...

Shabbu's "I Met a Man" story that would have won the 2019 Romance contest if it had preserved one more vote (5.0 with 24 votes at the end) is a bittersweet tearjerker too.

Ohhhhh yeah, I remember the one more vote thing. Shame, it was really good too. Valentines Day and bittersweet really go together.

Thank you!

Thank you so much, big help, honestly! :D Aww thank you, how lovely, you just made me blush

Just finished my entry and sent it off for editing. It might seem like I finished early, but the story was started for the 2017 Valentine's contest, so I'm actually very late. To complete it, I changed the entire thing to 1st person. Not sure how I feel about it, but at least it's one less half-finished story in the draw.

The original concept for mine ( as best as I can determine from the original files I mocked up a cover image with ) is from 2011. LOL

I've fiddled with it a little every year since. The opening is a lot stronger than any of the previous incarnations, but I'm also at the critical transition point now, which is where it has always fallen apart before.

Thanks for the head's-up on this, Ogg. My rough draft (20K words) is now complete.

That was the easy part. I do my own editing so it will probably take me until the start date to weed out most of the mistakes and blunders.

I think I'm gonna take a whack at this. I'm not entirely confident I'll be done in time, but if not, at least I'll have a head start on next year's contest. :D

Does anyone know if blood or death is a no-no for this contest? I'm not looking to do an erotic horror kind of valentines, but I have been playing around with an idea of a story set in a kind of medieval war setting with some necessary descriptions of blood, fighting, etc? Should I leave that idea for something else or would it be acceptable in this contest? No trouble either way, just thought I'd check to see if I needed to work on something a little different :) Thank you!

I don't see why this wouldn't work. I have no idea what the reception would be, but it sounds like a plausible story concept.

Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Don't let yourself get too confined by category definitions.

Thanks, Simon, that's super helpful. Haha I love that last bit, forgot about the very Merry Die Hard. Thanks again

They don't teach you that part in elementary school class when the cards are being exchanged and the candies passed out.

They also don't teach kids that the traditional heart symbol so common at Valentine's Day probably originated from the seed or fruit of silphium, which was used by the Romans and other Mediterranean cultures as an aphrodisiac and for birth control.

The page now shows 2020, but what I see includes the winter holidays graphic. That, at least, doesn't affect the information necessary to story submission.
