The official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2022 Contest Support Thread

So another story published, and another story following the predictable voting curve... heads up into high 4.7's in first day and a half, then beaten back down to low 4.5's (all in a few hours) then slowly creeps back up. Let's see where it climaxes in the end.

Had fun writing this one

https://www.literotica.com/s/hottest-day-of-the-summer

Dani has the hots for her bestie's brother. Rob (the brother) has a thing for Dani. Neither though will take the first move, so Abigail (the sister, who has a habit of acting on impulse) takes matters into her own hands... quite literally, and makes sure the two young lovers come together.

burgwad and Nelly, long, late-breaking stories that are well written sometimes do well in these contests. One only has to have 25 votes to qualify (versus 50 in the monthly contest) so while the large number of words and story length may work against the number of views, those who read and actually finish the story are probably more likely to be invested in it and like it and actually vote.

Good luck to all.

Thank you for the luck. I like to think my story is well written! But I don't have a very big built-in follower base just yet, so (i) Anon has an outsized impact on my stories' ratings, and (ii) I don't have that flock of loyal and excited readers who might repay me with 4s and 5s just for publishing a new piece. (No hate! I do this exact thing for authors I follow. "Oh, Xarth posted something new? Great! Let me scroll down real quick, give it five stars, aaaand alright let's see what it's about.")

I also wonder lately the extent to which Literotica ratings are like tip jars, where if a reader visits an author's page and sees that they have dozens of published works, 80% of which score above a 4.0, might they feel more inclined to leave a similarly positive score in much the same way that customers are likelier to leave a tip the more cash there is already inside of a tip jar?

So far, I've had only one reader complete Nazanin. They called it, "Engaging. Deep. Funny, but horrific." Which is just so heartwarmingly nice. They reportedly gave me five stars. If I get nothing else from participating in the SL2022 contest, their little piece of feedback will have been a really nice prize.

(Pardon my New Author Self-Absorption. It's unbecoming, I know. I think I'll grow out of it.)

My two are rated either side of 4.20.

The proposed third won't be a contest entry. I have completed about a third of it and stalled but I submitted a non-contest story today.

I never check my score until they announce the winners. But in terms of comments and favorites, the story is about what I'd expect for a mother son. I don't know the vote total because I think anywhere I'd see it, I'd end up seeing the score.

And no, I don't step on cracks or walk under ladders. But I own a black cat who is constantly running in front of me trying to trip me, so I'm probably screwed in the luck department.

Oh, I've had my share of those. I'm not in a bull's roar of winning, even with a generous sweep.

Thanks. I've noticed the same, based on previous competitions... And last year's 3rd place.
Although this time I've left it quite late, But...
Very pleased to have got more than 25 votes and break 4.7+
The first few votes were up & down, as always, but it's settling down.
Not being overly concerned of my placement, at this late stage, has helped me read and vote on some cracking stories out there...
Great competition entries as always...

All in all for my first competition its been really interesting and certainly amazing how much exposure a story can get from it. Good or bad lol

As the autumnal equinox approaches (for the over-entitled northern hemisphere at least) the Literotica Summer Loving contest hits its peak, and the reading pantry is stocked.

This year:

121 Entries from 90 authors

14 authors contributed two entries.

Other multiple entries:
One with 3, two with 4, one with 5, and an overachiever with 6. (An Alt account adds to at least one of these totals)

Categories vary widely, with some predictable concentrations:

20 each in Erotic Couplings, and Incest/Taboo
10 each in Exhibitionism/Voyeur, and Romance

1 in Erotic Horror, BDSM, Toys/Masturbation, LW
2 in Non-human
3 in Sci-Fi
4 in Letters, and Transgender/Crossdressers ('Letters of Love' challenge overlaps and includes three of these Letter offerings.)
5 in Fetish, Mature, and Non-consent
6 in Lesbian
7 in First Time, and Gay Male

All in all, quite an outpouring.

Good fortune offered to all the authors (bonus points to Southern Hemisphere dwellers, who either had to write a summer story in the winter, or else patiently withheld an entry crafted months ago. Do those who live in the tropics gain points or lose since their summer is eternal?)

Regardless, thanks to Rustyoznail for coordinating, and all who contributed.

Well, I feel slighted . But it’s my own fault. I submitted my story (Charlotte’s Free Weekend) only about eight hours before the deadline. Amazingly, my story went online within 24 hours and is in the list of entries that’s posted. But I can tell you’ve not counted it here, as my story is in Group Sex. Apparently I was unique in that choice.

And, although I might be an antipodean by residence, having spent most of my life in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s not that difficult for me to get into the ’summer’ mood in August.

Good luck to all on the final sweeps and scores. See ya’ll in the Halloween contest.

I've been told mine should have gone to Exhibition/Voyeur and I'm inclined to agree, lol. I have to stop trusting what I think is romantic because others don't seem to feel the same way.
Same with mine. I thought it was romantic, but on reflection and a comment, mature would have been a better fit.

Did we have a sweep? I noticed a story lose a vote and gain some rating, unfortunately it wasn't my Summer contest story. It's hanging in but not nearly a contender.

Don't think you were unique... I guess Group Sex was just missed as that's where mine is too

I always have problems with this… I clearly had abnormal taste.

YOU are the writer, you know what your story is about, trust your skills and your muse. If you get one or two complaints that your story is in the wrong category, how many readers didn't think that way? You probably had one or two readers who didn't understand, next time concentrate on making the point clearer. If you have 1,100 page views and 550 comments that it's in the wrong category, ok, I can see their point, but don't let one or two comments make you doubt your skills.

Mine didn't shift at all, lol. I've yet to see a change in score or number of votes in any of my stories. I'm gonna assume that means I haven't crossed the wrong bridges yet?
Well… mine had enough votes to qualify for placement but my story‘s score was way too low… Now I’m significantly below the threshold for number of votes, although my score is greatly improved… but still wouldn’t see my placing.

BIG sweep this morning! Every story that I've entered in a challenge or a contest lost at least one vote, but my summer lovin' lost 6 votes, bringing the score up 0.2! Somebody out there doesn't like me, but Mama Kitty loves this ol' dog.
