Gas prices to fall below $2 for Thanksgiving

Nathan Bomey, USA TODAY 11:43 a.m. EST November 23, 2015

Thanksgiving travelers will pay less for gasoline than they have in more than a decade.

The average price of unleaded gasoline is expected to hit $1.99 on Thanksgiving, GasBuddy.com analysts reported.

That's the lowest it's been for Turkey Day since 2004, said Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis for Oil Price Information Service.

Right now the average is $2.072, Kloza said, but it's fall. At that level, nearly 60% of U.S. gas stations are already selling gas for less than $2.

“We had lower prices in 2008 and 2009 but not for Thanksgiving,” Kloza said. “The cheapest markets are in the Great Lakes states. Ohio, Michigan, Illinois — very, very cheap gas there.”

Gas prices are down from $2.81 a year ago, according to GasBuddy.

Bad news for energy producers is good news for consumers.

The global energy industry is facing a massive surplus in oil production, which has led many oil companies to shed thousands of jobs and slash investment plans.

But U.S. producers have continued pumping oil even as the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) maintains production a high rate. That has depressed prices.

“This is a glut of crude,” Kloza said. “It’s a glut everywhere you look.”

The typical U.S. driver will save roughly $75 on the road in the 40-day peak shopping season leading up to Christmas, compared to recent averages, Kloza said.

“I don’t know what he or she is going to spend it on, but it’s a substantial amount of money,” he said.

It's especially good news for the millions of travelers who will hit the road this week. Some 67% of Thanksgiving travelers plan to drive more than 200 miles, GasBuddy reported.

For months, retail gasoline prices have remained higher than analysts would typically expect considering rock-bottom oil prices. With oil prices hovering in the $40 to $50 per barrel range for several months, gas has remained in the low $2 range for several months.

Analysts say the price of gas depends on many factors, including refinery costs, distribution and blends.

But the drop below $2 indicates that retail prices are finally catching up with crude prices.

Labor Department Numbers Indicate Unemployment Has Hit 7-Year-Low

by J.D. Durkin | 10:31 am, November 6th, 2015

Despite forecasts that job growth for the month of October was not expected to be quite so strong, the Labor Department announced Friday morning that 271,000 jobs were added. The overall unemployment figure now sits at 5.0, the lowest it has been since April 2008.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has published the newest data, and you can see the figures here beginning in January 2005:

http://static01.mediaite.com/med/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Screen-Shot-2015-11-06-at-9.52.32-AM.png

The jobs report for October is the highest growth we’ve had in 2015. The August and September reports were disappointingly-low by comparison, marking at 153,000 and 137,000 respectively. It is the highest job-total in an individual month since December 2014’s 329,000 added jobs.

The Obama administration is hoping to continue the seasonal trend of increased hiring in the Fall and Winter months. In the past decade, the lowest that our unemployment are fallen to is 4.4%.

Why Republicans aren’t objecting to Obama’s decision on women in combat

By Paul Waldman
December 4 at 12:10 PM

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has announced that women will be eligible to serve in combat roles throughout the United States military. “There will be no exceptions,” he said. “This means that, as long as they qualify and meet the standards, women will now be able to contribute to our mission in ways they could not before.”

This is an absolutely revolutionary change, for the military itself but also for American society as a whole. Yet the news was treated as a significant but not monumental story, the kind everyone stops talking about within a day or two.

One obvious reason is that the massacre in San Bernardino is still dominating the news. But there’s another reason: Republicans, the ones whom you’d expect would be shouting their condemnation of this move from the rooftops, have been remarkably quiet about it. More than a few even support it.

Sanders, Congressional Democrats File Amicus Brief Supporting Obama’s Immigration Executive Actions

Friday, December 4, 2015

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 – Sen. Bernie Sanders, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and 215 members of Congress last night filed an amicus brief in support of the Department of Justice’s petition for Supreme Court review of the president’s immigration executive actions.

“President Obama did exactly the right thing when he took action to protect DREAMers and the parents of children who are citizens or legal permanent residents. I am confident that the Supreme Court will support the president’s authority to defend aspiring Americans,” Sanders said. “We must work to unite families, not tear them apart.”

The members argue in the brief that Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are consistent with congressional intent and the Executive’s longstanding legal authority to establish national immigration enforcement priorities and exercise discretion in the enforcement of our immigration laws. As stated in the brief: Congress has “granted the Secretary [of Homeland Security] broad discretion in determining how to carry out the immigration laws, and has explicitly directed the Secretary to establish policies and priorities for enforcement of those laws.”

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling would effectively strip the Executive of broad authority to make discretionary judgments on how best to enforce the nation’s immigration laws where Congress has not prescribed a specific action, and would devastate millions of individuals, families, and communities across the nation.

Full text of the amicus brief can be found here.

One station is at $2.09/gallon.

The major ones are around $2.19/gallon for cash, $2.25 for credit, also down 2 cents.

Diesel is down a penny to $2.75.

kind of funny, as I'm sure you don't pay for the gasoline you use ... does welfare cover that?

yeah ... the obama is a Christian ...

Being a Christian himself, The President doesn't hold a profound tie to the Muslim faith as he does to the Christian one. He's concerned about people of HIS faith not living up to the ideals they profess. Not practicing what they preach.

But to address your question.
He's said quite a bit about ISIS, Al Quaeda, et al and their failure to follow their professed religious principles as well, even going so far as calling their beliefs a "perversion of Islam". In fact, he's called them out more often than he has people of his own faith.

obama is proof that some people are sheep ... being led into the obama slaughter house

ironic as the obama has never earned money so how can it have a house?
