Gas prices to fall below $2 for Thanksgiving

Nathan Bomey, USA TODAY 11:43 a.m. EST November 23, 2015

Thanksgiving travelers will pay less for gasoline than they have in more than a decade.

The average price of unleaded gasoline is expected to hit $1.99 on Thanksgiving, GasBuddy.com analysts reported.

That's the lowest it's been for Turkey Day since 2004, said Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis for Oil Price Information Service.

Right now the average is $2.072, Kloza said, but it's fall. At that level, nearly 60% of U.S. gas stations are already selling gas for less than $2.

“We had lower prices in 2008 and 2009 but not for Thanksgiving,” Kloza said. “The cheapest markets are in the Great Lakes states. Ohio, Michigan, Illinois — very, very cheap gas there.”

Gas prices are down from $2.81 a year ago, according to GasBuddy.

Bad news for energy producers is good news for consumers.

The global energy industry is facing a massive surplus in oil production, which has led many oil companies to shed thousands of jobs and slash investment plans.

But U.S. producers have continued pumping oil even as the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) maintains production a high rate. That has depressed prices.

“This is a glut of crude,” Kloza said. “It’s a glut everywhere you look.”

The typical U.S. driver will save roughly $75 on the road in the 40-day peak shopping season leading up to Christmas, compared to recent averages, Kloza said.

“I don’t know what he or she is going to spend it on, but it’s a substantial amount of money,” he said.

It's especially good news for the millions of travelers who will hit the road this week. Some 67% of Thanksgiving travelers plan to drive more than 200 miles, GasBuddy reported.

For months, retail gasoline prices have remained higher than analysts would typically expect considering rock-bottom oil prices. With oil prices hovering in the $40 to $50 per barrel range for several months, gas has remained in the low $2 range for several months.

Analysts say the price of gas depends on many factors, including refinery costs, distribution and blends.

But the drop below $2 indicates that retail prices are finally catching up with crude prices.

The fact that President Obama has turned to dictatorial methods to force through laws in this country is enough for me to despise him. The separation of powers under our Constitution does not give him the power to create and rubber stamp legislation. Only Congress has the Constitutional authority to pen legislation. As far as unemployment numbers, those are skewed because they fail to account for the close to 10 million Americans who no longer qualify for, and therefore are not counted in the unemployment numbers.
Also, the Stock Market is based on international big business profits. Thanks to Bill Clinton and NAFTA, multi national conglomerates have stripped our country of the very thing that made us great.... A strong, working middle class. Obama has been bought and paid for, just like the rest of them.

Except he hasn't turned to dictatorial methods to force through laws in this country. He probably should have as is his right as President but by historic standards he's been average at worst and stand offish if we're really interested in accuracy.

No, unemployment numbers do no fail to account for ANY Americans period. What you are talking about is the difference between the U6 and the U3 but the U6 has fallen roughly inline with the U3 throughout the presidency. It also includes a lot of people who aren't counted on purpose.

The Stock Market is up, that's all there is to it on that particular front. Sorry. You should learn some new dance steps these ones are old.

Obama signs Every Student Succeeds Act, marking the end of an era

Joy Resmovits

With the stroke of a pen, the No Child Left Behind Act became history on Thursday.

President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act, a bipartisan replacement to the universally unpopular, nearly 15-year-old education law. At the White House ceremony, he was joined by legislators, outgoing U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, his successor John King, and a middle school student.

“This is an early Christmas present,” Obama said. “After more than 10 years, members of Congress from both parties have come together to revise our national education law. A Christmas miracle."

The fact is that you are touting the liberal party agenda. The fact is that I employed in an occupation where I have to deal with those "no longer counted" people. I have been here long enough to see the steady increase in the number of homeless and unemployed over the last 10 years. My eyes don't lie.

Your lying eyes have short vision.

You have seen such a low sample rate, it's not a drop in the ocean.

The USA population is over 319 million.

How many people do you see? A hundred? A thousand?

Hell, one million would be 0.3%

how many "executive orders" did the cunt obama sign?

hum....

your kind is so blind, but I will admit SeanR that you've half way opened your eyes. Maybe you can join the rest of us in Reality!

Nobody isn't counted. IT's difficult to take you seriously when you insist on that part.

Do you understand how unemployment numbers work? They count the number of people who have APPLIED .... NOT the people who have exhausted their allotted number of checks. That means if you have used all your unemployment benefits, which is now capped at 18 months, you no longer count on the government rolls. THAT is why unemployment has "gone down".

I live and work in NY. I see thousands more now than 10 years ago. You are right, I do only see a drop in the bucket. The fact is if you open your eyes there are more everywhere. That is exactly the point. Why is our government placating all the special interests by letting them take our jobs over seas, give billions of dollars in aid to countries that want to destroy us, and then let in illegals to burden our tax payers even more? How is it that you are complacent paying for all this, or are you one of the parasites?

The problem is you're making that up and don't know how unemployment works.

Ok genius, if you are such an expert, enlighten me. Let's see if your assumptions and msnbc hallucinogenic agenda actually match what I know to be true, mostly because I work in the very government that deals with this crap.
