I didn't see that anyone else had started this particular thread so here goes..

http://www.apple.com/trailers/picturehouse/thenotoriousbettiepage/

Let's hear what you all think of the trailer.

I personally thought that it looks as if she'll be portrayed as a naive girl who perhaps didn't know or perhaps didn't care what she got herself into. But I realitively little about her life - and would love to hear what you guys might think if you perhaps do you know much about her life what you think of the movie preview.

i wonder if this is the same movie i'm going to see on Sat evening. The Portland International Film Festival has an American entry that is called the Notorius Bettie Page. And the young lady they have pictured looks just like the girl in the trailer.

I know very little about Bettie Page except that last I heard she was living a quiet life in Laguna Hills devoted to her Church and was flattered but surprised that she was such an icon for the alternative lifestyle.

This seemed terribly naive to me since I'd always assumed she was an active and knowledgeable participant in the kinds of images she portrayed, but I suppose that it's possible that she wasn't. I mean, Bettie Page was for the most part a Pin-Up Girl, she wasn't a pornographic actress. I don't think she ever did any actual nudity, did she? There are some spanking films, I think, but if that's not a life you're living, if you're approaching such things as an actor you can kind of shrug it off.

I'm curious about the film, but it's also made me eager to do more research about Page. Isn't it Gretchen Mol who's playing her?

Hi all

yes it is Gretchen Mol that plays Bettie and i must say she looked very much like the real Bettie from pics that my Mentor has shown me.

The film i saw at the Portland film festival is the same that will be shown on HBO later in March. Which is good because i was disapointed with the movie story line. It never really showed what and why she went the way of pinup girl vs "regular" model.

There were scenes that were vague in what it wanted to portray and others that left me questioning the purpose of why was it put in the film to begin with.

The film was shot mostly in black and white which gave a feel of the period, mid to late 1950's. The black and white cinematography was very beautiful i thought.

The movie portrayed her as just an open minded model posing for pics for clients with odd tastes. The movie never showed her as being in the lifestyle.

Worth watching for the beauty of the blk and wht footage. but as i said i was left disappointed with the story line.

i THOUGHT it would be coming out in theatres - I don't have cable much less HBO :(

It's showing on the big screen here but I live in movie central. If you've got a Laemmle in your town you might get it. That'll be whatever Art House theater recent showed Transamerica and Cache. Otherwise it'll probably be on DVD fairly soon.

Thanks, Ritza!

I'm disappointed to hear that it isn't a better-developed story, but the previews did look amazing so I'll likely see it on the big screen just for the visual.

bridgeburner...the visuals were beautiful...especially the black and white scenes. It was the fact that the visuals were so beautiful that made the movie worth watching. hope you enjoy as much as i did.
