Well, at least I don't feel so out of place now. It almost makes me happy that some of you people have to share some of the same awesome farm-related traffic that we get to here in NW Iowa.
We have all kinds of crazy traffic around here during planting season, and especially harvest. Let's not forget the random speeds of farmers slowing down unexpectedly to check their neighbor's crops. Most of the vehicles they drive are "farm vehicles" which can allow them certain....indulgences.....such as missing or burned out tail lights, blinkers, etc. Gotta be on your toes....
Laws suck, but they're there to keep the general populace safe. We don't have a helmet law for bicycles in Iowa yet....I think it's been voted down a lot in our legislature, but I can't even remember. I hate bicycle helmets. I've worn one once and it just pissed me off. I always wear my seat belt, my head lights are almost always on, and I drive as fast as the vehicle, my reflexes, conditions, and need allows.
If you want to laugh at dumb laws, we have a LOT in the states that are still on the books. 3 of my favorites are:
In South Dakota, it's illegal to sleep with your boots on.
In Iowa, you may not run for public office if you've been involved in a duel.
In Kentucky, you must have your slave holding a marker light for your carriage when traveling at night.
