The Mask of Tragedy
Tragedy wears many masks but the face is the same.
It shows sorrow, shock, and sometimes, shame.
We all wonder why it happened
and if we could have intervened
or if it was simply the way God meant it to be.
Tragic circumstances effect us all.
We question, recount, and experience the fall.
The fall from grace. Tears on our face.
We try to go on with our lives
without the one who put that smile in its’ place.
But life flows on within us and without us.
The dichotomy of tragedy is a two fold experience.
One is the pain. The other, the sane.
The sane in knowing the pain is gone
for the one wearing the mask
of sorrow, shock, and maybe, shame.
The other is the pain of not knowing
if I should be the one to blame.
The mask hides the truth but not the pain
Life without you will never be the same.
