in the not so distant future, it's found out that there have been humanoid animals hiding from humans. highly intelligent, and stronger than most humans, they had hidden because they knew the violence and prejudice humans were capable of. they survived by salvaging and stealing technology, as well as raiding for food for the first few centuries of their existence. once they became self sufficient, they spread out, hid, and learned as much as they could. most of this was for survival, but some hoped that one day they could reveal themselves to the other sentients on their planet. they formed a civilization of sorts, keeping in contact with other groups of their kind. they were not prepared for the day when a young human made his way into one of their hiding places. he was barely alive when they found him, but the medical knowledge they'd gained from their years of seclusion and study indicated that he wasn't a normal human. he was much smarter than they had known humans to be, and soaked up information like a sponge, locking it away in his brain. he was also more strongwilled, more enduring than anyone they'd met. after being nursed back to health, he convinced them to reveal themselves, and so, a small group, with him in tow, revealed themselves to the world through a meeting with government officials. that was the beginning of the change in the world.
two years later, in an area of colorado around an abandoned military base known only as Crystal Peak, a small city had been built. it had taken much planning, and a great deal of work, but the first community where humans and furries, or as the young man has named them, Zoans, is complete and starting to thrive. The young man has been asked by the governments of both groups to observe, advise, and above all, help, the community. as such, he has been granted a large home in which he will live with a small group of Zoans. he will probably be the only human in the group, though that might eventually change. and so, The Manor was born.
A large building, the building that would come to be known as The Manor started out as something of a cross between a ski lodge and a mansion owned by a resort company that went bankrupt. It had solid cement foundations, with a deep basement. Much of the interior support structure were large beams made from thick, study redwood. The size was expansive, but the design was definitely homey. The interior was mainly oak panelling, though there were also sections of expensive stonework and brick. In the main room was a large, open-hearth fireplace, of the kind you would have seen in a Viking lodge or Iroquois longhouse. In each of the bedrooms were radiators, and the lighting was oldfashioned. The kitchen was a large, open room like what a restaurant would have, and the windows on the upper floors were designed to be opened like a hatch. There were balconies on the second floor and around the attic, with double doors leading out each one. It had been expanded a bit, and remodeled heavily once it was purchased for the purpose it was now intended for. The old radiators had been replaced with a high-efficiency natural gas furnace and ductwork, and the bathrooms had been rebuilt to have modern conveniences like showers. Central air had also been installed, for during the summers. The lighting had been replaced with more modern lighting fixtures, with soft, natural-light bulbs to make it seem more like a home. Many of the rooms in the basement had been merged into large, apartment-like rooms by knocking down walls and reinforcing support beams, and the stairs leading down into them had been widened, strengthened, and made less steep. One of the other areas in the basement had been turned into a bit of a computer lab, like in a school. The computers placed in it were pretty much state of the art, and networked using a router, but the temperature in that room was slightly cooler than in other parts of the house. All the rooms had been cleaned out, and new furniture placed in them. The kitchen was fitted with a modern double stove and oven system and refrigerator, as well as modern plumbing and faucets. Cable had been hooked up in almost every room, and the walls and ceilings painted to look new where they were fine, and replaced where they needed to be repaired. The only things that were kept the way they were made were the open hearth, and the windows on the upper floors. Even the balconies had been rebuilt, making them bigger and more stable. A conservatory had been built on one side of the house as well, the reinforced glass walls allowing light to shine brightly in in the day, and an unobstructed view of the stars at night. The road leading up to it had been modernized and paved as well, and even the outbuildings had been rebuilt.
Once everything was ready, and Sebastian Wraith had his stuff moved in, having chosen a basement room for the space, all that remained was to wait on the housemates and get them moved in. Sebastian sat on the steps, waiting for the first of them to arrive. He didn't know quite what to expect, though he knew they'd be a variety group. He also knew they wouldn't all arrive at the same time. It would take them a while to get situated, he knew, but he'd help in any way he could. In fact, there had only been a couple of requests for multiple cable lines in specific rooms. He knew that that meant there would be at least two other serious computer users in the house. Aside from that, he hadn't had much in the way of preparations that he had needed to specifically complete. He knew he'd have to give everyone a set of keys, but he didn't know exactly how many yet.
Even as he was pondering that fact, the first of the housemates pulled up in their vehicle.
