The lit old timers thread

Old timers, eh? I've never really left the site but I largely stopped using the forums a long time ago. Been dipping a toe back in. Still keep in touch with a few old friends I made here, a conversation with one of them had me looking around & I found @just pet and stalked her here.

I'm glad that you did, James. I don't really remember you, but I was looking into your history and recognized and miss those that you used to interact with. Thank you very much for that.

:) I see @Noor in this thread as well as JP. Looking thru my message history and seeing when other old friends posted last. I'm still in touch with Imi and SexyWench and a few others IRL. Looks like a lot of others disappeared before or during the bug, or haven't been on much since. I hope they're all well.

I wish a desert rose could come back, but she can’t :(
Wait, why? What happened to ADR? I was looking thru message history & have been pinging people just to see, she was on my list.

VACA report: to all the doubters that thought it would be too hot in Maryland/Eastern Shore over Labor Day weekend.... I left the record month+ of triple digit heat in Houston for 4 days of low to mid 70s with soft breezes during the day to lows in the 60s at night and in the morning. It was perfect. To be honest, my first husband who lives nearby, messaged me that he found it ironic the weather was so great over the days I was there. He said it was supposed to go back to hot & humid the day I left. :)

My daughter went with me as Keeper. She'd never been to Baltimore, so we spent some time there. Went to the Inner Harbor - saw the ships and the 9/11 monument to the Marylanders who perished (featuring some of the twisted beams -- very somber), ate crabcakes, bought some birthday cupcakes from Charm City Cakes and got our hair done. WHY? I don't know. It was what she wanted to do. I also showed her Annapolis and where I used to live next door to the Public House in Edgewater. We got held up by a draw bridge - another first for her. The place we stayed on Eastern Shore was a bit far away but really nice. It was about 15 min from the Harriett Tubman Center (run by the Nat'l Park Service), which we toured and learned a bunch. The rest of the time was spent sitting by the water or watching the water and shipping/boating traffic from either chairs at water's edge, inside through picture windows or upstairs on the rooftop deck. We did take a short drive to the end of the road across the islands. At some places the water came practically right up to the road on both sides. I imagine when it storms, people out there get cut off. The day after my daughter had a big bowl of mussels for dinner, she discovered mussels growing all over the rocks at water's edge of the property. She was kind of grossed out and I doubt she'd have eaten them had she seen that first. Hahahahahahahahaha We had nearly a whole day between check-out time and flight time so we drove over to Virginia near Mount Vernon for another really nice meal along the Potomac and I showed her places I lived during my late teens and early twenties. She thought it was pretty there (because it is!).

We arrived back in Houston and walked out of the elevator into the parking garage to be smacked in the face by HOT AIR. By the time we walked about 50 feet to the car, we were both sweating. BLECH. At 11:30 pm it was 85 degrees. Welcome HOME!
Geez, you were all over my neighborhood lol

Ya know, I see some of y’all with 2001, 2002, 2003 join dates and I think man, truly old timers. Then I realize it’s 2023 and then 2006 seems to fall in the old timer category with ease.

I recognize and have interacted with a number of you. But like your experiences a lot of folk from when I was most active on the GB have moved on. Been fun hanging out at Lit.

Glad you had a fun time on Maryland‘s eastern shore, someplace. I hope you tried the clam chowder. If not, you’ll have to go back.
Nah bruh. Cream of crab soup over here. We do chowder but it's not a big thing. We don't have statewide competitions with bragging rights like we do for CoC.

I don't think I know you?

She was fading last I heard.

She had been fighting a long term illness for years. I sent her a card a while back and didn’t hear back. She has not been up to Facebook posting in a while. Her daughter hasn’t posted any obit so I’m pretty sure she is still is still alive. I miss her.
Last time I saw her on Lit was when Byron died in 2014.

That's sad.

:-( That's sad. Hi Noor, glad you're still around. 🙃

Ahhhhhh ok. Hi I'm Lisa. It's nice to meet you.
Hi there
I'm sitting up on the phone reconnecting with @just pet
Been revisiting my old times on Lit, if you feel like looking at some of the old timers & convos feel free to creep my history, you might see things & peeps you recognize.

@pink, if you want to see some of the old shenanigans, I'm in this one Noor dredged up. We had a lot of fun accusing Sheath, who appears to no longer be with us, of "losing" her children's pets due to gerbiling. Ah the good ol' days.
Gerbiling??? I'm almost afraid to read it.

Nah bruh. Cream of crab soup over here.
You don’t say where you’re at so could be you’re missing out on the good stuff even if you’re on the east coast. Mebbe get some of that she crab while you’re at it.

So no chowder comps, but CoC comps. Fair enough, likes are likes.

Baltimore/Annapolis area

@someplace was the reason I got pseudo adopted by the Houston Litsters back in the day. I think it was @SecretKate who invited me to a Lit-together, and when we closed the bar, we went back to SomePlace and Bluesy's place
I remember them both, @someplace is on my follow list from the old days :) Hi someplace 🙃
Going thru all this and talking with @just pet last night and seeing who all she's networked with has been crazy. I'm trying to track down a few folks I miss from the old days like Etoile, Redelicious, Raven & Akasha, and a few others. Who knows.
At some point if you and I get to talk IRL I'll have to tell you about how I ended up with someone who was secretly stalking me from here.
