President Carter is a year and a half older than Queen Elizabeth. Shall we start letting out the adulation and vitriol in advance?

Morally...there hasn't been a President in the last 100 years that can even come close. He is a good man. History has already shown he was a much better President than people thought at the time.

Spewing vitriol on Jimmy Carter after all this time and with the post-office example he's given us would very much identify a sick puppy. I'm sure it will be displayed, though.

Arguably he was soft with the Middle East, and so OPEC and Iran each took advantage.

But otherwise yeah, the USA could use more politicians like Jimmy Carter.

Saw this thread and did a little digging. What a fucking hero. Yes he made mistakes they all do. Nobel prize for peace. Election observation round the world. And building / fixing up homes via habitat for humanity . yes the world could do with more people like him rock on jimmy

Peanut Man's going for the 'Big 1'.

But he and she will go within months of each other.

The religious right has not been good at choosing presidents. In 1980 Evangelicals abandoned the most sincere Christian who was ever elected president for a product of Hollywood who rarely attended church. The religious right did not like the fact that President Carter did not propose a Constitutional amendment prohibiting abortion. Nevertheless, as Governor of California Ronald Reagan signed a law legalizing abortion in California. Of the three Supreme Court justices Reagan nominated to the Supreme Court, two voted to preserve Roe vs Wade.

Not dead yet.

Goin' to a parade.

Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, took a ride through the Plains Peanut Festival in Plains, Georgia, on Saturday, the Carter Center said in a social media post. "Beautiful day ...

I was thinking miscellaneous thoughts the other day and one of them was that I wondered how hard Jimmy and Roslyn were working at to die within fifteen minutes of each other just to put the icing on the cake of schooling the rest of us on how to lead meaningful lives.

It would have been better for nearly all of us if Gerald Ford had won the 1976 presidential election. That way, the Republicans get blamed for anything bad that happens in the next 4 years, and Ronald Reagan doesn't become president. It would have probably been Ted Kennedy in 1980.

Jimmy Carter bought the evangelicals into presidential politics as a big force in 1976, lost a minority of them early with the Playboy interview, and lost them BIG to Reagan in 1980. Ever since Reagan, especially since his second term, the Republicans have pandered to the narrow base of conservative evangelical crazies. As president, Carter ended Detente (began by Nixon and Kissinger in 1971-72), started the Mujahideen crimes in Afghanistan, that boycott of the Moscow Olympics, and even brought back the draft(!) that Nixon and Ford had scrapped in the mid 1970s, not to mention the Iranian hostage crisis.
