The Isolated Politics Blurt Thread I: A New Beginning

i was really surprised to read that only around 10% of the labour market in America is unionized!

this week the Mercedes-Benz plant in Alabama vote; it's a test this time to see how the vote will turn out given the company's anti-union messaging, something Volkswagen (TN) didn't do, taking a more neutral stance even in the face of 6 major TN political names threats and fearmongering.

Workers rejected the union by a margin of 56% to 44%.

fuckin' jim jordan cannot help himself on Memorial Day; when most other politicians got it pretty much non-partisan, a celebration of remembering those who lost their lives fighting for the USA no matter who they were, he decided in his ignorance or deliberate flame-fanning to toss Benghazi into the mix.

“From Bunker Hill to Benghazi to Abbey Gate,” he wrote. “Never forget the brave men and women who gave their lives for freedom and our country.”

That’s a curious (and pathetically partisan) choice of battlefields.

Benghazi, of course, refers to the deadly attack on two US facilities in Libya in 2012, during which four Americans died… none of them members of the armed services, which Memorial Day should be about. That isn’t to say that their deaths and sacrifices matter less, it just shows that, in every way, Benghazi is a bad example to choose for a Memorial Day message.

Shudda called it Grand Wizard Technologies.

The U.S. Justice Department and Department of Labor announced the agreements last week with Arthur Grand Technologies Inc., after the company violated the Immigration and Nationality Act by posting a discriminatory job advertisement in March 2023.

"Only U.S.-born citizens [White] who are local within 60 miles from Dallas, Texas, [Don't share with candidates]," the job post read.

"It is shameful that in the 21st century, we continue to see employers using 'Whites only' and 'only U.S.-born' job postings to lock out otherwise eligible job candidates of color," said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division.

I don't have a problem with the US Born limitation.

and instead of voting for the 'right direction, too slow a pace' guy, plus voting down ballot to make sure both the house and senate are Dem controlled so the pace can pick right the hell up, there are those voters who'll throw their vote away and hand things to the brick wall driver. :(
