The Isolated Blurt Thread XXXVII: You're Welcome, Fuckers

That's a sexy toaster.

I wonder what the footprint is on the counter.

We have a toaster that we bought years ago. Hated it ever since I brought it home. But she loves it and now is nostalgically attached... a fact proven to me when I floated the idea of getting a new one.

Still works with no sign of giving up. Probably stuck with it for the rest of my life.

happy sunday, y'all

bright, sunny, a wonderful almost 60 degrees with a light breeze

i am getting ready to mow the yard. i like the wear my blue hoodie for chilly mowing. it is not patagucci.

I believe my blue hoodie is Adidas brand. Somewhere there are 3 stripes. Of course, it was given to me and has a vendor's company name on it. I don't have any clothing with my company name displayed.

Please don't rake your leaves...

Backyard animals, such as toads, frogs and many pollinators, once lived in forests and have adapted to hibernate under leaves,” says Kraus. “The leaves provide an insulating blanket that can help protect these animals from very cold temperatures and temperature fluctuations during the winter.”

Another benefit of not raking your leaves is soil improvement. Kraus points out that as leaves break down, they also provide a natural mulch, which helps enrich the soil.

As the leaves break down, some of their carbon also gets stored in the soil, allowing your backyard to become a carbon sink. “While it’s great for cities to provide collection programs to compost leaves, the most energy-efficient solution is to allow nature to do its thing and for the leaves to naturally break down in your yard,” says Kraus.

Not only are leaves good for biodiversity and soil enrichnent it keeps plastic garbage bags out of landfills, by not using leaf blowers you use less fossil fuels. Stalks and branches provide food for birds that don't fly south and by leaving leaves and increasing biodiversity you are providing food for birds returning in the springtime.
well we have to clear them from the driveway for safety's sake, and some of the heaviest fall closest to the house... they go in the big old horse trough composter which has its own good share of insects.
If you've only a smallish garden, i'd have thought it'd be fine to rake them into a corner pile and maybe loosely hold them down with a little netting and bricks, enough to stop them blowing away but accessible for small critters?... the worms will enjoy them and they'll still offer safe-haven for the local insects

When she eats toast, that's all SWMBO wants.
H, too, most of the time, but then he tends to eat it as a part of a meal rather than on its own. On its own he might just stretch to 2 :)

I just want a toaster where I don't have to prise crumpets out with a knife.

Isn't everyone?

Apparently not

Not enough slots for a couple. I mean, who eats a single slice of toast?

My little proctor silex had the best most recent reviews. I was surprised - the only one that beat it out was some expensive commercial looking monstrosity. For the low low price of $150. Which I honestly think is a bit crazy for a toaster.

And so far she's been a good little toaster. She handles my rye bread like a dream.

..
Unless it's a code word. :D
..
Sally, have you seen my toaster?
No, but I sure would like too; does it come with a waranty?
It sure does.

The Holy Grail of toasters.

That's pretty impressive. A true bargain.

Here, I do old fashioned raking. Then they are put into brown recyclable paper bags, which the town picks up and composts them. Same with Christmas trees, they pick up and put the tree into a chipper.
Suburbia.

Diced and roasted Anaheim Chiles and red onions, cooked them with ground turkey, and frying tortillas for tostadas with refried black beans. Homemade guac for fun with my football game on. Not a bad Sunday.

If the leaves are too thick where I don't want them, I pull out the Stihl backpack leaf blower and give them a helping hand into the woods. Normally, the wind takes care of all that for me.

It's worthless to try to mulch any plants in my yard, the wind blow the mulch into the woods.

Here we don’t get a lot. And yes, they blow away if you wait long enough. Or they get covered in snow.
My last house had major leaves. I couldn’t even see my drive. For that, I would mow and mulch and empty into the woods behind my house. There is something to be said to having woods as your backyard.

……
Pot roast with veggies from my garden.
