Out where the cocks crow and the cows are tending to their newborn calves. Out where the hawks circle lazily in the cerulean blue. There's manure on the fields and the corn (maize) is sprouting out of the ground. The fields that were in soy last year are in corn (maize) this year— and vice versa.


The eyes really are amazing. The bugs are out. Even at 13-15 mph, when I don't consciously see a bug— they somehow react quickly enough to close the eyelid and keep the bugs from hitting my eyes. It really is extraordinary.

I am always amused whenever I play tennis against somebody who wears bifocal or trifocal eyeglasses.


Almost invariably, when they try to hit a lob or a volley, the tennis ball will move from one lens to another. In the process, they'll momentarily lose focus on the ball.


They are almost incapable of hitting overheads and a bit comic in their attempts.
