Not sick of Biles but Phelps should not have been waving his finger at being number one. On Canadian coverage, they thought he was a bit arrogant.
Not liking NBC coverage. Who got the silver and the bronze?

I thought he was pointing up, giving thanks to God.

Now the cops are just shooting -anyone-

Man killed by deputy in Compton not involved with carjacker

Donnell Thompson, 27, was shot at close range by a deputy riding in the turret of an armored vehicle, one of two dispatched as officers searched for suspects in Compton after a car chase and shootout. Police said the shooting occurred after Thompson ignored their commands and charged at them.

Hours before Thompson’s family planned a news conference to charge that officers killed an innocent man, the department announced its investigation found “no evidence” Thompson was involved in the carjacking.

Piggybacking off Zumi's earlier post - where are the hover cars we were promised in the Jetsons? I could have used that time to sleep or read on my way to work.

anyone who ignores their commands and charges at them, it seems.

is there a particular reason part of that narrative is bold and red?

A police officer in an armored vehicle killing an unarmed man seems a little much. No?

Assuming he actually charged the officers. In a weaponized armour vehicle. In a residential neighborhood. When the dead guy wasn't involved in the carjacking the cops were investigating.

i wouldn't think the guy deserved death, i'll give you that.
but ignoring the authorities and charging at them in the midst of a heated situation seems super dangerous, and not very smart. poking a bear, so to speak.

armored car doesn't have much to do with it. would it matter if they were in a cruiser, or on a police bicycle?

Are you implying LEOs are like wild animals?

Do you really believe a cruiser or bike is not very different from an armored vehicle?

I'm sure the officer felt he was in grave danger.

By an unarmed man. While in an armoured vehicle. <---- Is this not sinking in?

That's the crux of the issue for a British observer - I know our countries are very different in many ways, but in Britain at least the police force/service is extraordinarily well paid for what is largely a non-graduate profession. A major reason for that is that tacit, and in training explicit, understanding that you will be putting yourself in danger. There are dangerous people out there, and the police have to act as the adults, not the children, in those situations.

They ought to be, with their extensive training and good pay, better than the average member of the public at dealing with confrontation in a measured way, and yet often it seems that they are worse. If a child hit me as a teacher it would be my right to protect myself, to move away, to restrain them, etc. It would absolutely not be my right to hit back, because I am the professional in this relationship, and the one with the power at my back. The police do not have the right to avoid any danger whatsoever. They do not have the right, or rather ought not to have the right, to shoot when, for example, a mentally ill man shouts at them, or an angry mother runs at them waving a stick. Shooting ought to be when their lives, or those of others, are in danger. That's it. Not when they might get a bruise, or be sworn at, or get a punch. That's what they are paid for.

Well said, Des.
