So, 4 hours and a modest amount of cash later, I've replaced my cracked for the 3rd time, partially working touchscreen, bottom of the line phone with a slightly bigger, slightly better phone.
Baby steps towards the past. The present is almost within reach. The future will be some tomorrow's past and Ill pick it up cheap.
I used Samsung Smart switch app and I really am glad to have all of my conversational threads for text transfer it over and my phone now looks just like my old phone. It transferred all of my apps but things like my Firefox app don't have bookmarks aren't logged in and I now have to puzzle through all of that.
Does not seem to have the usual learning curve for voice to text on the new phone to figure out what I'm saying. So that must have transferred over as well. Having a quad core is noticeably better than that POS dual core.

This kind of thing is in your wheelhouse, so I am sure you're right.
I'l get there by the time it's obsolete.
next issue is the phone started with 25% battery I had it plugged in allegedly charging while I was using it and it's slowly drained as 0 and shut off. That doesn't look good however I wasn't using the charger that came with the phone. I don't know why they wouldn't work the same but just to be sure I switch Chargers and it does seem to be working.
Just before it got to zero so I turned off Wi-Fi Bluetooth and location services just figuring anything would help to save.

You *have* to get the proper charger. It's pretty much the only way to fuck up your phone internally- over/under charge it. Voltage, mAh, whatever.
Reboot it, turn on Airplane mode and let it full charge.
