I saw this comment made elsewhere. It adds figures to an idea I've heard before. With the stock market at its current level, I doubt that its total return will be 9.8% going forward. That figure is, however, accurate (ignoring taxes and transaction costs) with respect to what the stock market returned historically (from 1926 through 2014).

In the US, Social Security takes 6.2% of your pay which is "matched" by your employer. In reality, this is 12.4% of your pay. If that were invested in a variety of stocks, the long-term rate of return with re-invested dividends would be 9.8%. This would provide over $1.5 million dollars in retirement for the $50,000 average middle class worker after 30 years.

Does it provide $1.5 M? No, because the government takes the money you pay and sends it directly to those already retired or disabled. It never earns interest, it isn't yours so it cannot be inherited. So now it is suggested we pass a law to force people to save more of their income because they aren't saving enough for retirement? I think we are saving enough, our government is just mismanaging it.

The fuck kinda angle is that on that driftwood pic. Are you a contortionist?

Lit kinda flips them depending on how I take the picture. It's not as awkward as it looks.

If you find any more good pieces, I'd pay you to ship them to me. Srsly.

Look at this. I love this look. you can purchase real pumpkins, use a special craft/art shellac on them and they last forever. Then you can chalk paint those, too. Isn't this fabulous? I love the look of all the white pumpkins Im seeing this year. Mix them in with your painted driftwood and you have a beautiful centerpiece.

That's gorgeous. And yes, I will keep you updated on the driftwood situation. This is a good time of year for collecting because of the storms. I'd totally send you any that you wanted.

I forgot I signed up to work Election Day. I don't know if I want to anymore.

Were I a creepier individual I would assure you there was no danger on that front as long as I had you avatars to ogle. But I'm way too classy for that.

That's why I put them up - gotta separate the classy from the classless. I've long since been stamped classless.

Ahhh, thanks, Fata. He's just the best. I  him. I named him Duncan and the name fits him to a T.

I was fussing a squirrel today. A little old man owns a shop in Bakewell, Derbyshire and he has a pet squirrel. He was sat in his palm eating acorns! My head nearly exploded.

You make that sound so endearing. The entire scenario. There's probably a reason you love books so much.. You were a writer in a former life.

Write that book, Fata. It would be a best seller.

Is he a puggle?

Yes, he is. But, he's 3/4's pug and only 1/4 Beagle. I'm not sure if that's good or not. He's super stubborn which I'm told comes from the pug side. But, his face melts me. He's so darn cute that I let him get away with more than I should.

He's too adorable.

Ha! Oh god he was adorable. Never got that close to touch one before. He was so soft I wanted to rub him all over my face like a powder puff. I thought his claws would be sharp but they felt like a kitten's as he gripped me finger.

Awww.
