You remind me of Dylan Thomas at times. Beautiful.

Breakfast for dinner and game night tonight!
Two of my favorite things.
Back in the seventies that was the ladies' fave drink! That or Cherry B which was fucking rancid.
Babycham or Cherry B?
Back in the 1960s, any date that ordered either was probably not for me. They were pretending sophistication they didn't have - then.
My first three fiancées drank:
1. Sloe Gin and Bitter Lemon
2. Single Malt Whisky and she preferred the rarer distilleries
3. Dry Martini
But one young lady could drink most of her mates under the table with pints of Newcastle Brown. She's been a friend's wife for nearly 50 years.
Another one young lady, daughter of one of my father's friends, should have stuck to Babycham. I took her out for the evening, mainly to apparently comply with parental pressures that "We'd be good for each other". I knew she already had a boyfriend her father didn't know about, and I was temporarily away from my base. We agreed to go to the nearby public house and to the cinema to see a movie (title long forgotten) that we both actually wanted to see instead of using it for an excuse for necking in the back row.
She asked for a half pint of cider. She hadn't told me that she had no tolerance for alcohol at all. The landlord hadn't seen her or he would have warned me. She drank nearly all the half pint of low alcohol sweet commercial cider and became seriously drunk. I had to carry her back to her parents' house slung across my shoulders. I was very embarrassed standing on her parents' doorstep with their almost unconscious daughter draped across me.
Her father took it in good part. We had only been gone twenty minutes. He knew she shouldn't drink. He might have told me!
And Snowballs! My Mum still has one with her Christmas dinner.
I remember older women drinking Barley Wine. Or Gawd-help-us! Wincarnis!
From Wikipedia:
Wincarnis Tonic Wine is a carefully formulated blend of enriched wine and malt extract with a unique infusion of selected therapeutic herbs and spices including gentian root, mugwort, angelica root, balm mint, fennel seed, coriander seed, peppermint leaves, cardamom seeds and cassia bark ....is a natural tonic incorporating herbs traditionally recognised for their ability to combat common ailments and alleviate their symptoms. It is rich in vitamins, especially energy-giving Vitamin B complex, and can have beneficial effects on the circulation system and blood pressure.
Originally it used to contain Bovril as well!
