This is sort of embarrassing, but... a few weeks ago I found this rice-type stuff. Zero-calories, all fiber, made of konnyaku, same as the shirataki noodles. Anyhow, it wasn't made or packaged in the states, didn't have English labeling or any clear directions of any kind so I figured you prepared it like rice. So I did that, and it was well, kinda gross but really filling. Tried making it with broth and it was slightly more palatable. Figured it was an acquired taste, so on my "fast" days I've been trying to, um, acquire it. Because it really is filling as fuck.

Anyhow. Come to find out that you're not supposed to eat it by itself - you're supposed to mix it in equal parts with real rice, so it cuts the calories by half.

Doh!

So yeah, I tried that today. It's way better when you eat it how it's meant to be ett! You don't even notice it when it's mixed in with rice. lol

I finally found some shirataki noodles, and....gross. I couldn't get past the smell, even after rinsing the hell out of them.

What I found helps is to rinse them, blanch them in boiling water, then rinse again in cold, then immediately get them in some sauce. Or dry-fry them in a pan with a wee bit of oil for 5 or 10 minutes. Or toss them in the trashcan and eat something tasty. :D

Seriously, konnyaku is gross. IMHO. BUT it really does add bulk to a meal. Unless you're one of the lucky ones who just luvvs tasteless slimy, the secret I think is to hide it in other stuff. Strong-flavored spicy sauces and crunchy veggies and such.

I had this dream that I was in a pickup truck with JAJ and we were laughing about something, he leaned over and whispered to me "Some people's smiles are like soufflés..." And I smiled and him until he added "But not yours".

That fucking asshole.

Now I'm super mad at him. My smile is too like a soufflé!

I'm still pissed.

I did the dry-fry thing, but they were still icky. I've discovered that zucchini noodles and/or broccoli slaw make a decent pasta substitute for some dishes.

I do something similar. I rinse them, blanch them in boiling water, then rinse again in cold, then immediately throw them in the trash. ;)

Do you realize that since 1972, the U.S. dollar has lost over 80% of its value versus the Swiss franc ?

Hmmm.

Freezing then thawing cherries makes them lose their firmness but sharpens the sweetness. A positive and yummy side effect.
