Your Spine Has Your Back

I was inspired to write this after reading an article this morning. The article was about a study that was done comparing Pilates with other methods used to alleviate back pain. Pilates came out the victor, of course.

I love that more and more doctors and Physical Therapists are using or recommending Pilates as rehabilitative and preventative care for their patients. It works. I’ve seen it first hand many times over.

Here’s one thing that the article was missing, though. Why does it help? Why is it so effective? Well, prepare yourself for a little anatomy lesson, my friend.

The back, spine, vertebrae, whichever you prefer, is a miraculous structure (as is the rest of the body of muscles and bones.) It’s like our best friend, really. We rely on it, we lean on it, it supports us, it holds our weight, bends with us, and takes us where we want to go. Whoa, that’s a lot of work for one friend, right?

If you were all of that for one person, wouldn’t you get tired and cry out in pain and agony? Yes! Your poor friend, The Back is thinking “What about your other friends, the abdominal muscles? Aren’t they able to help support you, too?”

What an excellent question, let’s get them involved. Oh sweet harmony.

you're welcome, i need to make time for pilates.

Mr Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls. He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencods' roes. Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine.

Kidneys were in his mind as he moved about the kitchen softly, righting her breakfast things on the humpy tray. Gelid light and air were in the kitchen but out of doors gentle summer morning everywhere. Made him feel a bit peckish.

You're more than three months early.

I know, I know. Who wouldn't long for June after this winter? Spoke with my mum today, she said Kilkee has been devastated, Lehinch nearly washed away.

I needed a new bed, so we went to Harvey Norman...

And there was a sale on...

I bought a brand spanking new, medium slash firm, top-of-the-motherfucking-range, queen-sized King Koil ensemble.

And a TV, an iron, a speaker dock, a Humax digital recorder, a set of cordless phones and an absolutely gorgeous set of dining chairs.

I'm feeling much better, thank you! :D

P. S. I saved a mint. Don't you just love sales?

Sales are da bomb;)
Last week I won a 100 dollar gift certificate to a fancy store. When I checked their website I found they were having a sale on really nice cookware. I got a couple of pieces for almost nothing. Free Shipping!

Good day. Feeling kinda sappy. Good thing it's bedtime so I don't make everyone roll their eyes.

Bed time here. Still but at least temps went ABOVE zero. I walk around the house wrapped in a blanket. Gah.

Don't know the situation, but in my experience when you've explained how you feel and get nothing back, it's often not so much "not understanding" as it is "not caring".

Don't know the situation either, but advice like that reminds me that I have too few good, old souls in my life.

Who knows where I would be today with a few more.

There is something surreal about washing your hands at 5am after being sick, glancing up at your face in the mirror and noticing the sparkle of glitter you somehow acquired the night before.

When I read his posts I want to gouge my eyeballs out with a soup spoon then cram them up my arse so I may never see such shit written down again.

But then there's the ignore feature I guess. Less dramatic.

 Pilates! I take class twice a week. It keeps me strong, bendy and flexible. The man bought us a "duo" for Valentines Day because he wanted to try it...he was strong and did a great job!

There will be napping to be had today....oh, yes.....

And, still...like a murder scene for flowers.
