I'm considering building a beach house.
and I savored every bit of it slowly. It's early, but I really feel that doing this twice a week isn't going to be that difficult. I'll squeeze my next "fast day" in on Friday maybe. And tomorrow I can eat like normal. I'm already excited about that. Anyhow, we'll see how it goes. It may be the start of a new lifestyle. Or I may give up next week. lol
condolences about your BP issues but i have to say i love your posts. the visuals they bring...I went to see my government provided doctor last week and my BP almost gave HIM a heart attack. So he made me eat some pills and said he'd send me a Rx.
Yesterday I got 6 bottles of drugs! Today I got a fancy BP machine that blows up on its own. I've been eating pills and testing the pressure on everything I can find all day today.

I've read a lot about calorie restriction and longevity and have always sort of wanted to try it out. The research excites me. BUT it's not a lifestyle that I can do. So I was really interested when someone sent me this:

which led me to buy & read this:

which is a fantastic book that everyone should read.
Basically it's not hardcore fasting, and it's not even the every-other-day-superlow-calories thing either. Five days a week you eat whatever you normally eat. Two days a week (they don't have to be consecutive though it's better if they are) you eat much less calories - 500 for women, 600 for men.
This may sound really hard/drastic, but it's not actually that bad. Yesterday was my first "fasting" day (they use that term in the book, but it's not a fast 'cause you're still eating). For breakfast I had tea with no sugar or milk to extend my not-eating time. (The longer you go without eating, the better the effect on your system - the more your cells begin to repair, the more your pancreas gets a chance to rest, etc. etc.) Then for lunch I had a bit of roast chicken and a bunch of veggies - about 400 calories worth of food. Skipped dinner, but enjoyed a cup of airpopped popcorn with no butter with the nightly movie. Drank lots of tea and water, along with a bottle of diet lemon soda. You can have all the zero-calorie beverages you like, and need to drink extra to compensate for the liquid you're not getting from your food.
Thought I'd be dying at some point, but it really wasn't all that bad. I didn't feel a huge loss of energy. I didn't feel like devouring the world. I will say that the lunch tasted really, really goodand I savored every bit of it slowly. It's early, but I really feel that doing this twice a week isn't going to be that difficult. I'll squeeze my next "fast day" in on Friday maybe. And tomorrow I can eat like normal. I'm already excited about that.
So I'm going to try this for two months. Last week I had my yearly physical, so I'll have bloodwork, weight, etc. to document the me prior to trying this out. Told my doc I was giving this a try, and he was delighted - suggested I return in a month or two for another blood panel. Right now I'm doing this primarily weight loss, but once I'm down to 110 (assuming I can get there) I may continue it if it looks like it's also improving my overall health.
Anyhow, we'll see how it goes. It may be the start of a new lifestyle. Or I may give up next week. lol

It doesn't take much to get the confirmation you always knew.![]()

Perhaps it's just pinin' for the fjords.today - or, rather more precisely, this afternoon - my coffee filter machine has succumbed to . . . whatever it is old coffee machines succumb to. plugged it in, nothing... jiggled things, still nothing. *sigh* switched on the regular kettle for some instant; just as i poured in the hot water, the little red light appeared on my coffee-maker, mocking me. I was happy because i'd some nice filter coffee inside waiting for those first steamy drips to moisten and encourage and release it. Hurrah! one lovely pot of coffee. Later, went to use it again, and nothing. Zilch. finito. it is dead. my coffee machine is an ex coffee machine, having bravely struggled to make me that final pot. it coffees no more.
time to get a new one.
