HBO is going it alone next year. With all their content, I bet they give NetFlix a run.

Netflix had an extraordinary conference call with investors yesterday. They paid all this money to research if raising their monthly fee by $1 would impact their bottom line. They decided it wouldn't.

NetFlix is one of the great management stories.

I had NetFlix a long time ago and got the DVDs in the mail. Then they split off streaming stuff and doubled my fee. So I canceled the service; just like about half of their customers. Their stock dropped like a rock

Then the president of the company wrote me a letter and said he was sorry, and asked me to please come back at half price. I guess other people got that letter as well.

Because of that act of contrition, subscriber base doubled and the stock went through the roof.

It's the best $10 a month you can spend
