Yards are hard.

Those are both gardens. First one garden or lawn. Second one vegetable garden or patch. Yard would be concrete only.
 
The oldest allotments in Britain are in St Ann's Nottingham. Some go back to 1604.
really? wow, makes good sense though. these 'mericans with their sprawling 'yards' don't understand the handkerchief sizes of our gardens (less'n we're lucky) and little houses.

I have a shed and a statue of an angel. And a bench so you can sit and contemplate the angel.

I have a bench too. And a statue of a faun playing the flute and a stone Green Man's head. Nice little garden really. Try not to venture into the sheds cos of the huge spiders though.
