The Isolated Blurt BDSM Thread

Decided to break out the yoga DVD, since I haven't done anything else productive today.

And you can tell I haven't done it in forever because, holy Jesus, I feel about a thousand years old. I burned the candle at both ends for so many years that I don't know how long my poor, abused body is going to hold out for me.

But, regardless of how much my joints and muscles scream at me, there is a sort of quiet spirituality in it that I really need at the moment.

Pics, or we won't believe that Baying Bunny poses ever happened. ;)

~~ When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn? ~~
- Pete Seeger

I know the gun control issue is a hot one in your part of the world, SW, but, wow. Every statistic I read regarding gun violence and death in the US just makes me scratch my head more and more. How long will everyone keep their collective heads in the sand?

Unfortunately, I feel as if there may be no putting this genie back in its bottle. People always comment on L and me driving through Mexico and how dangerous it is. Mexico? We don't worry once we cross the border. It's driving through the US to get to Mexico that makes us nervous!

The irony, when it comes to gun control, is that everyone points to the hallowed second amendment. But right in that amendment its says a "well regulated militia". Regulated. As in, controlled.

I wish you all luck but I have a feeling Connecticut is not the last horrific mass shooting south of the border that will plague my TV and internet. :rose:

I saw a timeline Sunday or yesterday of all the mass shootings since Columbine. Thirty, in the 13.5 years since then (4/20/99). Thirty. Eight of those this year.

Maybe the End Times are near. Maybe they *should be.*

Here's a link, for those who want to review the timeline article.

Yeah, I think I posted that article on here.

In the words of the philosopher Dylan:

How many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died ?

Unless we "do mental health" nothing is going to change. That's the other common denominator. I don't know if there's a place with less "mental health infrastructure" anywhere.

Ironically, one of the things that I see folks on this kick arguing for is the elimination of lifetime and annual caps on mental health care reimbursements in health insurance policies. Thanks to the ACA, this actually is already in the law.

It's kind of the perfect storm:

- Large population
- Easy access to an abundance of deadly firearms
- Poor mental health infrastructure
- Declining public education system
- History of gun culture - ie. guns (of any type) seen as socially acceptable/inalienable right

I love what Chuck Wendig has to say about it: http://terribleminds.com/ramble/2012/12/17/its-not-one-thing/

Ok, but, find a shrink who takes insurance. That eliminates a LOT of therapists. Find out what your options are if you're the parent of a teen who is a danger to self and others. (Prison as institution)

It's very broken. And teens are especially vulnerable to institutions that systemically abuse the mentally ill, real Willowbrook type of stuff still goes on if you're a minor.

We've always had this kind of access to firearms, though. What we haven't had are the pressures and the breakdown in any kind of understanding of morality, a society that's happy to wash its hands of everything not winning the game...

I agree that it's a many-headed hydra. I think anyone who's not willing to listen to solutions on any front is insane at this point.

This follow-up post is fantastic, I agree.

Mine did. And now that caps have been eliminated, more and more of them will take insurance. Simply because the funding will be reliable and patients won't be disappearing 20% of the way through their therapy because Blue Cross won't write checks any more.

Yes, it's a many-headed hydra, as you put it. But some progress has already been made and it's being ignored in the discussion.

Oh, God, no. They'd turn into blackmail photos so fast....

I wish we had a thread to discuss how ass-backwards our mental health system is because, boy, do I have stories. I hesitate to put it in the mental illness thread because, well, that's not what you'd call an encouraging discussion for people who feel crappy. We could discuss the gun thing, too, and it could be a mass-shooting reaction thread or something.

I dunno. It sounded like a good idea before I started babbling about it.

BLAAAHHHHHHHHHH. Somedays I just...BLAH.

I'm just not having a good evening, I think. And I'm lonely because my house is EMPTY for the holidays. I knew one roommate was gone, but the other one (that I was actually kinda looking forward to hanging around) ended up with free days and she's buggered off to spend holidays with her boy.

Which is great. she deserves it!

But now I'm lonely :(

I find the assumption that most people are on or need some meds completely weird.

I hear ya, but then I was just thinking that these days when socializing at even a moderately sized party, asking "what are you on?" is getting to be almost more interesting and surprising than "what do you do?".

But then again, maybe I'm just weird. *shrug*

It is, in a way... but don't take away my nine morning prescriptions, three evening prescriptions, and nine to fifteen OTC pain relievers a day, k? Without them, my blood pressure would skyrocket, as would my cholesterol and triglycerides; my reflux would result in an inability to eat much more than oatmeal; parts of my brain might explode... in all, I'd probably be *much* bitchier than I already am

I'm not trying to pry meds, psychiatric or other, out of anybody's hand, be it warm or cold. I just find it weird that the assumption quite often seems to be that most people are on some [psych.] meds.

On that note, I'm gonna go get me an ungodly painkiller cocktail and knock the hell out of my cramping uterus.

I AM... Who's got em? Gimmegimmegimme! I want happy pills, pain killers, and muscle relaxers, with a vodka chaser.

I've always thought people just need good friends and a hug here n there but my friends are sucking right now. And there aren't enough hugs to get me out of this funk.

I too, need the cramp killer but I made a rule not to drink at home. Rules were made to be broken I guess.
