Decided to break out the yoga DVD, since I haven't done anything else productive today.
And you can tell I haven't done it in forever because, holy Jesus, I feel about a thousand years old. I burned the candle at both ends for so many years that I don't know how long my poor, abused body is going to hold out for me.
But, regardless of how much my joints and muscles scream at me, there is a sort of quiet spirituality in it that I really need at the moment.
Cool... I'm in!

I saw a timeline Sunday or yesterday of all the mass shootings since Columbine. Thirty, in the 13.5 years since then (4/20/99). Thirty. Eight of those this year..... I wish you all luck but I have a feeling Connecticut is not the last horrific mass shooting south of the border that will plague my TV and internet.![]()

Maybe the End Times are near. Maybe they *should be.*
Here's a link, for those who want to review the timeline article.
Unless we "do mental health" nothing is going to change. That's the other common denominator. I don't know if there's a place with less "mental health infrastructure" anywhere.

Ironically, one of the things that I see folks on this kick arguing for is the elimination of lifetime and annual caps on mental health care reimbursements in health insurance policies. Thanks to the ACA, this actually is already in the law.

That conversation is pretty much stifled by the NRA;

Ok, but, find a shrink who takes insurance. That eliminates a LOT of therapists. Find out what your options are if you're the parent of a teen who is a danger to self and others. (Prison as institution)
It's very broken. And teens are especially vulnerable to institutions that systemically abuse the mentally ill, real Willowbrook type of stuff still goes on if you're a minor.
We've always had this kind of access to firearms, though. What we haven't had are the pressures and the breakdown in any kind of understanding of morality, a society that's happy to wash its hands of everything not winning the game...
I agree that it's a many-headed hydra. I think anyone who's not willing to listen to solutions on any front is insane at this point.
This follow-up post is fantastic, I agree.

I find the assumption that most people are on or need some meds completely weird.
I find the assumption that most people are on or need some meds completely weird.
It is, in a way... but don't take away my nine morning prescriptions, three evening prescriptions, and nine to fifteen OTC pain relievers a day, k? Without them, my blood pressure would skyrocket, as would my cholesterol and triglycerides; my reflux would result in an inability to eat much more than oatmeal; parts of my brain might explode... in all, I'd probably be *much* bitchier than I already amI find the assumption that most people are on or need some meds completely weird.

I'm not trying to pry meds, psychiatric or other, out of anybody's hand, be it warm or cold. I just find it weird that the assumption quite often seems to be that most people are on some [psych.] meds.
On that note, I'm gonna go get me an ungodly painkiller cocktail and knock the hell out of my cramping uterus.
