Firstly, I think a Thread like this is a good ideal, maybe it will get made into a sticky!

I'm not sure if I should post this...oh, I sure it is true because I saw it with my own eyes.

I am going to create this thread then add my information just in case I decide it needs to be deleted for the public good.

How to open a common Master Lock type lock like a # 3 without without a key.

Leaving no trace and a perfectly good lock behind.

This is outrageous.
**************************************************************
Take a piece of rope or heavy string and a hammer or some substitute.

Run the rope through the shackle putting a slight to light strain on the lock body with it, the key hole pointing towards you.

Strike the lock a sharp but still light swift blow on the side where the ball and spring are located that fit into the notch in the shackle.

The damned thing will pop open so easy it will piss you off!

I meant to post this in the regular How To board but maybe it's just as well...

Shouldn't a How-To on stealing be banned or against the rules? Is the question I just asked a pretty stupid one?

Now you realize my hesitation about posting this information.

I'm not sure this needs to be public knowledge.

The guy that did this was a prison guard for awhile.

That probably is where he got it from..but STILL?

What say ye people?

I don't see this so much a thread about stealing as it is about perceived safety/security. Most folks think that by installing a door lock or padlock that they're safe and secure, when in reality, doors are kicked in quite easily, that's if the intruder hasn't learned how to "bump" a lock yet. Padlocks, as demonstrated above, are also easily thwarted by anyone who wants in. There are certain bike locks that are also easily disarmed.

Keep this in mind, ANYONE who wants your stuff is going to know how to get it, regardless of the amount of security precautions you take. Professional thieves make it their business to know the tricks of the trade to gain entry.

Not all padlocks are like this one.

Consult the local locksmith.

When I was younger and dumber, I'd try to find ways into cottages (without breaking anything) just for the sheer thrill of it (and no, I never EVER stole anything, I'd get in and get out right away) and I know for a fact there is ALWAYS a way in, but that doesn't mean everyone needs to know how. If everyone knew how to picklock, then I'm sure crime rates would skyrocket, so I think it's best if we don't start showing people how...

I thought this was going to be a thread about Phil Harris

He said, "You know this difference between a fairy tale and a fisherman's tale?"
"The fairy tail starts, 'Once upon a time' and the fisherman's tale starts, 'You ain't gonna believe this shit!'"
RIP Phil.:rose:

I had an old Cushman key that worked on about 6 GM cars and several motorcycles and scooters. You just put it in and shake it up and down while turning right. I have used this technique since on several situations with locks.
Most of us at the local paper branch had scooters or cars. One guy got a Triumph Tiger Cub. It's about a 125CC bike, maybe 250cc. I used my key one day and took if for a ride down the street. It was sick, and would only do about 60mph, top speed. Lots of people saw this, so when I told him later that he should get a serious tuneup because his bike ran like crap, he didn't believe me, saying it was a good, new bike and ran great. He was shook up when all the people told him I took it for a ride and it sounded bad like I said.

There is no such thing as a perfectly secure lock. Such devices keep normally honest people from being tempted.

I disagree. Honest people aren't going to break in or steal regardless of whether or not they have the information. Just because the info is out there doesn't mean people will be compelled use it.

I've never even looked to see if my neighbor locks his shed, even though he has some tools we could use. Taking someone else's stuff just isn't in the realm of possibility for me. If I found out he left it unlocked, I'd warn him, rather than figure it was an open invitation for me to steal his property.

Yet, many people go with the consideration that if it wasn't OK to take stuff , it wouldn't be where they can get their hands on it.

No matter how small or large a thing it was....nor costly.

Some people believe that there is no right or wrong ...good or evil usually, I have noticed, when it comes to something they want to do.:)

I'm certainly not disputing the immorality of many people.

I AM disputing the notion that having the information will turn moral, law-abiding citizens into immoral lawbreakers. Things like The Jolly Roger Cookbook have been easily obtainable for years now, yet we don't see a far greater number making up bombs and napalm just because they have access to the recipes, do we?

I agree with this. I know how to use a gun, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and kill someone.

Indeed. Roughly half the people who post to this forum have cocks that get erect but I doubt if a single one of them is likely to go out and rape someone tonight.

Afghani truckers

Must have known this trick as well, because we never got a full shipment of anything sent forward, but locks and seals were often intact.
Anyone else think NippleMuncher has the best profile pic on LIT?
