Now here's an interesting and one-of-a-kind question.

How would you react if you moved into a 100+ year old house and there was a quarter-sized black spot high up on the wall of the master bedroom that keeps coming back no matter how many times you paint over it, and there isn't any explanation for it whatsoever.

There aren't any leaking water pipes behind the wall either.

Your dog won't stop aggressively barking and growing at "the spot" and refuses to go near it.

You frequently hear inexplicable scratching on the wall where the spot is located.

I'd have the house exorcised, then burn that fucker down, flood the land with holy water, butt fuck Heathyr Hoffman in the holy mud, and rebuild.

Is that the answer you were looking for?

You are living in The House of Leaves, and you need to get out, immediately.

(I suspect you would enjoy the book, Mr Yates, for all sorts of reasons.)

Keyhole saw. Cut out of the wall a foot-square containing the spot. Take that section of wall (gypsum board? no, probably lathe and plaster) away; maybe slide it through the basement window of the house of someone you do not like.

If there is anything untowards in the space behind the hole you just cut, run.
