But can't until next year. Unless someone here has a good plan for kidnapping Peter Jackson and demanding the film in exchange for his release?

See what's in store for us next December here.

I wantsss the ssssound track, my preciousssss, wantsss that ssssong! Wantsss it noowww!
Tell me about it! You know, ten years back I saw the poster for Lord of the Rings/Fellowship. I had no idea anyone was even trying to bring it to the screen...again. I saw that poster and went into shock, then got shivers up my spine, then crossed the theater lobby to gawk at it wondering it if it was real or if someone was playing a joke on me...because that poster looked too good. Too perfect. Too exactly-as-I-imagined-it when I read the books. I stared and stared at it, as if I'd found the holy grail.

This is it, I thought. Someone's done it. Really done it, not made a dumb cartoon of Lord of the Rings, or a cheap, live action where the hobbits look like Santa's elves from a bad Christmas movie. This is going to be Lord of the Rings.

I got the same feeling watching this trailer. OMG. It's The Hobbit. It really is The Hobbit.

And I wants to see it NOW!

When the Fellowship of the Ring came out, one of my students' family went to see it. When the film ended the mother sat in the theater seat refusing to move. "I want the rest of it! I want the rest of it and I'm not leaving until they show it!" Heh, I know how she felt. Those films made me cry and I suspect this one will, too. So overpowering . . .

It's one of three movies I know I will be seeing in theaters next year (Avengers and Dark Knight Rises are the other two).

When the trilogy came out on film I was skeptical. I've read the books at least fifteen times, and the Hobbit maybe 3 times, The Return of the King was nominated for 11 academy awards, and won all 11.

I must say I was somewhat disappointed with the ending, it left a lot of people wondering (who didn't read the book) saying... wtf happened? It was explained in detail in the book. Then again in the Book of Secrets and the Similarion.

Jackson did a great job with the movies, and I will go see the Hobbit, I know it's been in the works for a while, but Ill read the book first to refresh, just in case any details are added or left out due to budget or time constraints. Thanks for the trailer 3!

Agh, another year!

I'll reread in the meantime, too. I've read the trilogy an unseemly number of times but the Hobbit no more than two or three.

It managed to crash my PC.
I hate QuickTime.

 Heh. Sorry. The precious is powerful.

I think I'll read the book first. . . .

DO I take it that the delay is to heighten the tension so everyone hungers for it ?.
Or is it a"legal" problem (licences, merchandising, etc.) ?

Well I guess I'm in the minority, as I have no interest. First off, seeing we're moving backwards I can't help but think "cash cow"

Also I was never a big fan of the book (although I very much enjoyed LOTR) I have skewed perceptions of things and let's face it. Bilbo cheated.

"What's in my pocket" is not a riddle.

But hey, then there wouldn't be a series right? Bilbo gets gutted and it all ends right there!

Oh, I don't think there's any delay--though there are certainly legal problems going on last I heard with the Tolken estate. I don't know if they were cleared up or not.

That said, the movie just isn't due out till next Christmas. Likely it isn't done yet because it undoubtedly requires a ton of CGI (there is a dragon in this movie as well as gollum). That takes months to do, especially if you want it to look good.

And even if the movie will be done before December, the Hobbit *was* a kids book (more or less) and unlike Lord of the Rings you can take kids to see it (no long and gruesome war sequences). So the studio likely decide to make it a Holiday movie, when all the kids are off from school.

The thing to wonder about isn't why it's going to take a year to come out, but why they put out this teaser now. Perhaps the answer to that's kinda obvious ;)

Story of my life, that's okay you guys enjoy your fix.

For the record Gollum/Smeagle is one of my all time favorite characters. In a way the first tragic villain I can remember reading. Deep down he was not evil, just weak willed and enthralled to a cursed ring.

During LOTR he demonstrated a tenacity that I always admired. I loved the ending where although he dies, he was reunited with his precious. It was sort of like he won in a way.
