ACCORDING TO THE DUTCH PRIME MINISTER, Jan Peter Balkenende, there is no know connection between the IKEA-bombs and Islamic terrorism (link in Dutch). The Prime Minister told reporters in Amsterdam that the police suspects that "criminal elements" are involved, but not Islamists. There are now rumors flying around that IKEA is being blackmailed. The police has denied a connection with the trial against the al-Qaeda terrorists in Rotterdam.

UPDATE: The head office of the Dutch official news agency ANP has been evacuated after a bomb threat. An explosives team is investigating the premises. Similarly, the headquarters of the Netherlands Oil and Gas Company (NAM) in Assen has been evacuated after receiving news that a van filled with explosives was on its way to the building. The Dutch authorities are unable to check out all the threats, and have called in help from the German police. The problem at this stage is going to be to distinguish the actual terrorist operation from the prank calls. For instance, in the last few hours, a bomb threat has also been made against the Dutch embassy in Uganda. UPDATE: There were no bombs in the ANP headquarters. Also, no bombs were found in an IKEA-store in Delft. So far, there seem to have been two IKEA-stores where explosives were actually found: Sliedrecht and Amsterdam.

UPDATE: It turns out that al-Qaeda has very specifically warned the Dutch government against continued operations against its Dutch network. Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed, leader of the London-based radical Islamic Al Muhajiroun organization issued a threat against The Netherlands on 29 November. According to the Dutch TV-program "2Vandaag" the sheikh said that The Netherlands would be targeted with a major terror campaign if it didn't stop "arresting muslims" immediately. In an apparent response to the threat, Dutch army and navy bases have been heavily protected recently (link in Dutch). It seems as though the Dutch government knows much more than it is letting the public know. The sheikh is a Taliban and Osama-friend who has been very active in recruiting young muslims in the Brixton mosque for Jihad. He was involved with Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, and organized a conference of Islamists shortly after September 11th, in London. For some inexplicable reason, the politically correct government of Tony Blair hasn't yet arrested him.

BOMBS IN HOLLAND. Something very strange is going on in The Netherlands. Yesterday explosives were found in IKEA-shops (the Swedish do-it-yourself stores) in Sliedrecht and Amsterdam. This morning, the police also found a bomb in the IKEA-store in Utrecht, in a suspect package. (see map for details of location):
All bombs have been detonated by the police before they could do any damage, although two police officers got hurt while detonating the Sliedrecht bomb. All remaining IKEA-stores have been closed and are being searched. In what now might be a related development, the deputy prime minister and Home Secretary, Johan Remkes, said a few days ago that a credible threat had been received warning that Holland's tunnels would be targeted with bombs. This morning, the national press agency ANP received a bomb threat, as did the NAM, the Dutch oil and gas company. The Netherlands is an acknowledged center of Islamic radicalism, having provided integral support to the shoe bomber Richard Reid, and others. Is this some weird al-Qaeda operation? There is some speculation this might be retaliation for the trial against three al-Qaeda members in Rotterdam that started a few days ago. UPDATE: An IKEA spokesperson said that no IKEA-store anywhere in the world has ever received a bomb threat
