Apples and oranges. Nobody in Europe wrote a Constitution like ours, or raised as great a nation as America either. Our founding and accomplishments are unique in the scope of history. Europe did however invent and employ the Nazi and Communist state which murdered tens of millions of its citizens; and as a result of that bloody experience, and with the help, blood, and resources of the United States of America, threw off that oppression and developed democratic systems reflecting values similar to our own. We on the other hand, having never experienced the incremental evolution of totalitarianism in our own country, blind to its symptoms, are cycling right into its awaiting arms for a little instruction and experience of our own.

7 years ago, Congress authorized building 700 miles of double-tier fencing along the Mexico-USSA border...

...according to the International Boundary and Water Commission, that border is 1,969 miles long.

Per The Washington Times, there now stands 651 miles of some kind of barriers along that length: 316 miles are single-tier pedestrian fencing, 299 miles host "vehicle barriers that still allow wildlife, and people, to cross"...

...and 36 miles of the border sport the aforementioned double-tier fencing.

Today the Senate voted 54-39 against building anymore of the remaining 664 miles of that double-tier fencing as a requirement to the current illegal immigrant debate going on in that chamber...

NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell said on Thursday that fiscal conservatives who oppose immigration reform should be "ashamed of themselves" for ignoring the calls of local community leaders.

Speaking on MSNBC's Morning Joe, Mitchell also described Sen. John McCain as "heroic" for fighting against conservatives who only want to increase border security.

"Here you've got the business community, the chambers of commerce, the agriculture community, Evangelicals, Catholics, clergymen, all across the country -- and they are not listening because in their districts it doesn't pay any benefit: There's no cost for voting against immigration," Mitchell said.
