Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale awakened awareness
of an imbalance in the United States of America
More than 30 years have passed, since her book was released into the public.

Margaret Atwood was awarded Radcliffe Medal in 2003
1961–63, Attends Radcliffe College, where she gains an MA and begins doctoral studies
at Harvard University. 1963–64 (Cambridge, MA) 1974 Received Canada Council grant
to return to Harvard to work towards a PhD.
Women began receiving diplomas signed by the presidents of both colleges in 1963,
and a joint admissions office opened 12 years later. In 1977, Radcliffe finally ceded
administration of academic and residential life to Harvard and became well-known
for its Mary Ingraham Bunting Institute for female scholars, artists and activists, and
the Schlesinger Library, the nation's foremost library on the history of women in
America.
April 21, 1999
Radcliffe College announced today that it has agreed to merge with Harvard University
transforming the 120-year-old women's college into the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced
Study, a center for research and graduate-level education.

Soon after that, women are demoted by American formerly-Republican
politicians, to the status of a self-propelled embryo propagation tank.
