The Halfbreed (closed)

Historical is across town bus 2 can get you there and back. I just know things near and old town due to people who have been involved with the parish.

Father Zain shrugged.

I never roam far much just in case.

“Why is that Father Zain?” Christopher was curious “surely the diocese doesn’t require you to be on call 24/7 does it?”

Not at all but I am the only one here who can do what we do. I just enjoy reading and I have seen all of this years ago. Plus sometimes it's good if I am here for meetings when information has been withheld from Lyria that should not be or some new cop harasses everyone trying to get answers about her

“What is it with this woman?” Christopher thought, he was mildly exasperated at the amount of attention she demanded. Here he was, a new priest, ready to serve and all they can do at the diocese is talk about her and the other guy. “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” flashed in his minds eye like a neon sign. He crossed himself in a gesture of contrition to any members of the supernatural realm that may be watching.

“Father, I will happily leave for the afternoon and explore this town. Can you tell me one thing though? There’s been a lot of secrecy since I arrived. I’m a fully ordained member of Christ’s church. I thought you would be teaching me what it means to fight evil. It seems like my assignment is a lot different to what I thought.”the words tumbled out and Christopher’s face was a little flushed.”Father Zain, what exactly do we “do” here?”

We tend to the church and it's members. We...

He motioned between the two of them.

Do exorcisms and accept that sometimes those need a stronger power. We tend to the school here so these children have a place till they can enter regular schools.

“These children?” Christopher was curious “they seem normal, healthy, and inquisitive. Why do they have to wait for normal school? And, more importantly, what stronger power exists than that of our risen lord?”

Stronger power is given to us in the form of allies. These children are here at the needed request of parents and some their parents have passed and deal in trauma and other things

Zain was getting annoyed but knew he had to view Christopher as a child in many ways for now.

What is your impression of Jacob and Lyria aka Helena's "little cold one"

He chuckled at the d woman's nickname.for her.

Christopher thought for a moment “she’s angry, really angry. I think Jacob might be too, but he hides it well. They both have an other worldly quality to their appearance, I can’t quite place it, but have the impulse to grab some iron and make the sign of the cross every time I see them. But they are also…and I say this between men who have surrendered their desires for the flesh to god…very attractive people” Christopher searched for more words “they seem…powerful, obscenely powerful, but also…they seem unstable like the power they have to hold themselves back is only just enough. Father” he said “they seem powerful and dangerous, but I’m also not threatened by them, I don’t know why”

The archbishop withheld some information from her having to to go into a previous exorcism and it resulted in... an event that could have been prevented. It was a misstep on his part but it... It dredged up past problems with the previous Archbishop.

He sighed shaking his head as if to dismiss an unwanted memory.

Jacob... Is... At best like a leash at worst a muzzle as he can be a little more... Diplomatic.

“Surely those in service of the holy church do not require a handler?” Christopher watched the old priest carefully “Father, whenever you speak of these two it seems that you carry memories are heavy to bear. Although I cannot take the burden from you, I could help you share it if you’ll trust me”

Sister Arla walked over.

Father Zain and I remember when she was one of those children here. A very special case was placed here while her mother was pregnant with her. Once Father Danielson realized how different she was she was...

Father Zain tried to shush her.

What is the Archbishop going to do I am 96 years old. Father Danielson weaponized her in exorcisms. Father Zain and I were far younger at the time and we tried to look after her. It is because of Father Zain that she still even helps any of us. Bishop Stevens that bloated insufferable angry loudmouth remembers as well and is not happy that she is no longer the weapon she was before but is actually treated like a human being.

""like a human being"? Sister?" Christopher asked "the bible says that our weapons of warfare are not flesh and blood. What kind of weapon was she? She looks human" in a secret part of himself that he was unprepared to admit to, Christopher thought she was a very attractive human at that "how "different" is she?"

As if on cue the archbishop walked up and handed Father Zain a paper brow raised at how quickly the conversation silenced. Suspecting that they were telling him more about Lyria he added.

They will meet you there... It already has a body count... My hands are tied.

Zain looked at the address and nodded motioning to Christopher.

Let's go.

He will have to know now... She will not pull her rage when targets have been killed.

The archbishop nodded.

Approved. Let them explain if they choose to.

"I'm ready to serve as you have need Father, and I know that the armies of heaven stand at our call"

Jacob knew the new guy was coming and was not convinced this was the best time or way for him to learn what they were especially her.

Zain... Are you sure about this?

Zain shrugged.

We have a body count we don't have a choice. It's not ideal but it is what it is where is she?

Jacob motioned for them to follow as he led them to a solitary room in a concrete basement. Opening the door Lyria was about to slam into from being thrown only to bounce off Jacob and stare at the man in the room laughing.

You hit like a little angel demon.

Leaping back at an almost inhuman speed she grinned growling at the man before her.

The man roared a clearly demonic roar as they began fighting again

"he keepeth me on paths of righteousness for his names sake" Christopher intoned unable to look away from the scene in front of him. He watched in amazement as Lyria, dwarfed as she was by the demonic being in front of her dodged, ducked, weaved at lightning speed, landing blow after blow on the being. "Christ, Mary, and all the angels protect us. What. is. going. on?" he breathed

The fight went on for a few minutes her hands now more claws than human her eyes glowing as the big man fell and she crouched over the body her face revealing fangs and pale glowing eyes as she moved to rip the heart from it chanting something under her breath as the body before they released tendrils of a green-black smoke before shrinking a little. That's when she caught his scent and demonic eyes bore holes through all three before her. Jacob stepped slightly in front of him and his own eyes seemed to glow more red and dark. Father Zain spoke calmly.

Lyria this one had a body count... He had to find out. Father Yeardley this is Lyria and Jacob.

Jacob still stood ready to run interference if he had to as Lyria stood there watching them growling.

Christopher could not stop staring. His lips moved soundlessly, watching the girl whirl and spin and then finally *rip the heart out of a, a , thing, and then, and THEN she’d chanted what sounded like backwards Latin in order to destroy it while fangs FANGS emerged from her mouth* he leaned up against a wall to steady himself.

“Pleased to meet you” he said, the color drained from his face

Jacob nodded to him but still stood there between the both of them and Lyria. Father Zain saw the body shrink a little and shook his head.

It wasn't a possessed... Is was...

A growled reply came.from Lyria as she stood up demonic features still present.

Like us...

Her eyes never leaving the young priest.

Now you know.

Christopher shrank against the wall and crossed himself. He closed his eyes and prayed the 23rd Psalm.

He opened his eyes, hoping that what he’d just seen and heard were a bad dream or vision of some sort. It wasn’t.

He looked at Jacob, Father Zain, finally the girl. “Nnnow I know” he stuttered. Chiding himself for being a man of god, a servant of the risen Christ himself who shrank from the face of…whatever this was he pulled himself together as best he could. “Father Zain? What now?” He asked

Now we go somewhere quiet and you get all the annoying questions out of the way once I make sure Lyria can grow back out of this and back to normal.

Jacob spoke his eyes slowly losing the dark red glow.

We good Lyria? No desire to rip anyone else apart?

Jacob asked her before Father Zain added in his own question

Who was the halfbreed lineage or could you tell?

She nodded to Jacob and then looked to Zain.

Bloodbath... Held no clue of the power he could have had we were lucky.

Christoper struggled to maintain his composure, “what?” He began slowly is a half, breed?”

You saw the eyes... You saw the claws... What do you think a halfbreed is?

Lydia questioned him surprisingly calmly as she watched him

The young priest swallowed, he was still pale “Jesus, Mary, and all the saints I don’t want to think about it” he said crossing himself.

There was nothing that seminary had done to prepare him for this. Fragments of St Augustine’s confession, the sermons of John Chrystonom, and apologetics of Justin Martyr swirled uslessly in his head as he tried to make sense of everything

“Lyria, I saw the power that…thing had. I want to help. Where can we talk?”

She shrugged. I need to get to Omens.

Omens was a bar in a fairly dark rough part of town, to say the least.

Got the guts meet us there priest... Street clothes though. Got it..
