Ok, so you're gonna have sex. What method of contraception are you/your partner using? Which method of brith control do you think is best?
Condoms have lost their favor with me, since I've ended up with more than 1 stuck inside me. Deproprovera scares me, because with this shot, the doses aren't exact all the time. I don't know about the pill. Any Ideas???? How effective are Diaphrams? Help!

Um.... serious question... How do you get a condom stuck up inside you? Is that a small dick thing? Or an oversized condom thing? Or a tight... erm... pussy thing? Really, I'm asking. I wouldn't have thought it would happen.

Contraception wise,... seeing as how I had to ask the above question, I won't try and answer based on my expertise! But what's wrong with the pill? Apparently it can cause excess hair growth and some slight weight gain, but otherwise it's like 99% effective, right?

Short of that, you could always just have him pull out. (Yeah, right!)

MADDOG

I used the pill, when it really mattered. I had none of the bad side effects, and it was extremely effective. When I decided to have a child, I was pregnant within two months.

I tried a diaphragm; it was uncomfortable and led to some unintentionally comic moments.

It's best if you talk to your doctor, and think about what your lifestyle really is. I'm careless and sloppy, but I was able to manage a little pill every night. People who are more careful and detail-oriented might be able to handle the diaphragm a lot better.

I'm a firm believer in the pill though admittedly its not me that has to pump poison into my body 21 days a month.

I hate, no make that DESPISE condoms. My girlfrind and I had scare after scare with those things, discovering they'd broken or split during intercourse. It also seriously hampers sensitivity for both male and female. The peace of mind and ease that comes with the pill is great.

If however, I was not in a commmitted relationship and was just getting laid now and then i'd definetly use a condom regardless of my preferences.

There are way too many STDs (people seem to think its just HIV they have to worry about. 1 in 10 people have chlymadia apparently!) out there to take a chance.

I don't know...I'm very meticulous about taking my pill, yet I've gotten pregnant from using it...is that a low dosage problem? I did try Ortho Tricylen, but it was too high a dosage for me and resulted in my spending a week in bed...it might work now, as I've been on the pill for over a year again...I've also gotten pregnant from using condoms.

I don't trust anything...heehee...

Your best bet is to consult with your doctor about what is right for you.

I have used the pill and condoms and diphram. I despise condoms but the pill and diphram are both good. I had a few problems with the pill but nothing major. The only thing i had a problem with on the diaphram was you had to make sure you used it! *grin*
Actually since i have been married for 20 years and have 3 kids i had my tubes tied. That is the best of all!

Of course if i was single i am sure i would feel different about all of this.

Stuck Condoms - Your Explanation Maddog

How did I manage to get a condom stuck inside me? Ok imagine having extremely wild sex with a partner who is as into as you are. Imaging him having a very above average penis in length and girth. Imagine the thursts so hard that they hit your cervix every time. Imagine the condom slipping a bit from all the friction and motion. That easier?

Flagg - you take a very common man's veiw. You hate condoms, but would not want to be the one pumping the harmones into your body.

Getting my tubes tied at 21 is not an option. What happened with the Ortho? why were you sick off it? has anyone heard about the patch that is suipposed to be on it's way to approval?

Princess, I can totally sympathize with you on the condom issue. Been there, done that...and it's not a pretty site! Something totally unromantic about fishing for condoms after sex.

Only info I can offer is how I reacted to the Depo...that drug was created by the devil, himself, in my opinion. I was on it for one year...the first six months were awesome. Didn't have that monthly visitor and life was good. The last six months I was on it, my "little visitor" wore out its welcome. For six months straight, I bled (sorry guys), and became anemic. My doctor had to put me on medication to induce a temporary menopause so that my body would kick back into it's normal cycle.

When I asked him what happened, he said I was in the "less than 1%" of the population that has that side effect. Lucky me! So, while this isn't something that's overly common, it did happen to me...just thought I'd share that with ya'.

TPP, I am currently taking Ortho-Novum777. It is a 30 day prescription birth control pill, that not only regulates your period, but it helps to prevent pregnancies, and (the big one here) it has something in it that helps to keep a woman's face clear and free of those pesky zits. I would ask your dr. about which is right for you. If your scared about depo, then don't even think about the implants, they would hurt worse. An IUD can be dangerous, and I have had your problem with condoms, as well as they rip me up inside. Truly talk to your dr. He/she can give you the best advice.

Well, let's see...the Ortho 777 is what I normally take. I started when I was 16. I became pregnant at 20. After I had my daughter, I wanted to breastfeed, so I was on this mini-pill for 4 months...then I just stopped taking it.

I went in for my regular checkups, but since I wasn't sexually active, I didn't take any birth control.

When I finally decided I was ready to be sexually active again, at some point during my engagement, I went in. The doc put me on Ortho Tricyclen, which was supposed to be this new, better version of the 777...it was a bit strong. I vomitted for days. So, she yanked me back off that and gave me the 777 again...and I've had no problems with it. The Tricyclen is supposed to be better, so I might try it next time and see if my body has adjusted to the hormones enough to let me use it...if not, I'll be back on the 777.

One of the most effective ever was the IUD. Thanks to lawyers, it has almost (if not totally) disappeared from the market as a result of lawsuits resulting from one poorly designed model.

Talk to your doctor and ask him if they are still available and particulars on risks, et al. A couple of years ago, I heard that IUD's were still avaiable but rarely if ever offered because of the 70's or 80's lawsuits filed by the bottom feeding lawyers.

If I remember correctly, the IUD is a small ringlike device fitted to you and installed in the cervix. Essentially the way it works is that it creates a minor irritation (which is not noticable to the user) with the result that a fertilized ovum will not attach to the uterine lining.

After our 3rd child in three years I had a vasectomy. That won't help in your case, unless you are in a tong term relationship with a guy who never wants children.

Uncle Bill I have to disagree with you on the iud. My first wife had one and we managed to drive it into the wall of her uterus till it poked a hole. Not a good thing.

Depro might be good if you are planning a divorce but what I saw from it was not pretty. The implants can grow into your body to the point that it can take a pretty good incision to remove them.

Condoms failure rate must be higher than most people think and I have to agree that fishing for a lost one is not exactly my idea of how to end a romantic encounter.

Good luck my 17 year old is thinking about going on the Ortho 777 just for help with the zits. We will see what the Dr has to say.

Fallen Angel, check out this web site http://www.proactiv.com. This might help your daughter with the acne. Maybe an alternative to the pill if you or her are uncomfortable with it. Have you tried tetracyclines for her? If you want to, e-mail me. Don't want to bore anyone!

Hey...Ive had that happen too. Isnt it embarrassing in a funny way???

Personally, pills are the best for me. No having to decide, "Hey Im in the mood, lets get out the contraceptives!" Take one every nite, no problems.
