I use two...a small pocket camera, a Canon SX700 HS which takes excellent photos. the zoom lens is very good.

I also have Digital Single lens Reflex (DSLR) which has interchangeable lenses and can take filters. Its a Pentax K10. A DSLR is probably more than you need if you are just starting out - a small pocket camera is better and more convenient. If the bug takes you, as it did me, then you can move up to a DSLR...however the pics in my gallery were taken with both - so you can see the difference in quality is hard to spot
