Okay, bored pornsters.

Let's take an objective look at the potential excitement level of the threads just on page one of the AH today. A quick scan of the menu reveals a respectable variety of topics, from the sublime to the perverse and combinations of both. Just a few of your choices are:

~ Crackdown on pornography
~ Crackdown on plumbers' butt-crack
~ Fear of flying
~ Global disasters
~ Eternal foreplay
~ Pagans
~ Sexual frustration
~ Love as an element of pornography
~ Death
~ Deceit
~ Depression
~ Willies
~ Cunts
~ Those eccentric Brits
~ Implications of condom use in porn films

We have threads where you can post something inspirational,
threads where you are invited to talk about yourself,
threads where you pornsters are asked for advice by other pornsters
threads about the lack of exciting threads
a lovely thread about the weather
and one about national flags, the ultimate indictment of design-by-committee.

What's missing?

I just wanna give you a kiss. Is that ok in this thread?

Ah, what the hell, I will anyway!

Thanks, Sher, for pointing out the bleedin' obvious. :D

Lou :rose:

Just to point out a bit more re. the 'obvious': look at the number of posts among the threads, e.g., those that have over 1000, those with only a few to under a hundred. I have to say I'm still disappointed that some very interesting threads get the usual number of visitors and then move along to page two.

Not complaining, I know what I want and what to do.

Is it the quantity of replies that's important? Like story scores?

When I post something that attracts discussion by a few people who share my interests, I don't feel disappointed when it disappears onto page two. If I have something to add, I can always bump it. If not, it's accomplished its purpose - I've had a conversation with some intelligent people on a topic of interest.

I'd really like to understand why some of the people here whose company I've enjoyed seem so unhappy here lately.

I'm down south, my time is limited & my dial up connection speed really hinders me reading & posting. I am trying not to drop off the edge of the earth. Should be home middle of next week so I should be back to posting regualrly.

I did not mean anything judgmental re. quantity/quality. The numbers merely show what's important to people on the AH, stats can have some merit at times. Obviously a certain number like to 'play' more than others. Obviously a certain number prefer discussion.

I like both, as does Mab. obviously (he's made everyone laugh heartily many times), and most people. It just seemed for a time that the silliness was taking over.

I accept the reality now, and will keep looking for whatever interests me. I'm sorry if any feelings get hurt anytime, but should 'complaints' be censored or disallowed? Obviously not. So we just keep talking, or not.

JMT came in 'innocent' of the past couple weeks and posted his thoughts. Why jump him? There's no conspiracy, just a great variety of individuals, all sensitive to varying degrees (indluding me).

best, Perdita

I'm upset you haven't mentioned my thread on Lit clichées, "The Worst Chain Story Ever".

I've lit incense, chanted, danced naked and offered prayers, the negativity is gone,,,,,,,,,,this house is clean.

Maybe the current events of today are too depressing? I will cleanse them too..........come here Jacko!!!!!

As I see it, we've got three classes of threads here.

* Fast threads. The social banter threads that are fun. Mainly populated by flirting lesbians, crazy brits, and other fun folks. Harmless content, high traffic, short posts, and easy to just pop in and post a witty remark in. For giggles.

* Slow threads. The serious stuff. Threads about important shit, like global warming, depression, writing and politics. Mainly populated by assorted Lit veterans, occationally the people from the fast threads, and of course Weird Harold.

* Thread threads. Threads that discuss the state of the other threads. Like this thread.

Fast threads are easy to post to, so they'll stay on top most of the time. As long as the slow threads are present, and keep some kind of standard, I'm quite content. Slow threads do on occation turn into fast threadsm then the Slow air goes out of them. Sometimes before that. But hey, shit happens.

The only ones that gets on my nerves are the thread threads, that are bitching about the state of the other threads (often saying that there are too few slow threads, instead of starting slow threads). Except this thread, since it gave me the opportunity to bitch about the thread threads.

I apologize if I seemed to jump on JMT. It was meant as a tease, not a slap on the wrist.

Consider this: a lot of insecure people are likely to be participatiing in an anonymous message board, at Lit or anywhere. Dr. M asks whether we're here because we're sexually frustrated. I think, based on the number of posters who joined the Depression thread, that we're here trying to make a connection with people in ways that don't threaten us, and we chose this forum because we like dirty stories. Some are frustrated sexually, others are frustrated by shyness or live in a world where open discussions of sex are frowned upon. We are, with some exceptions, a pretty fragile group of egos. To announce to a room full of fragile egos that the gathering has become boring is bound to make half the people there think, "It's me; I've ruined it for the talented people, the ones who belonged here."

Not that I'm insecure or anything. Neither am I defensive, and I resent the implication that I might be defensive, because I'm not.

I have a sense now that, along with the silliness, there's some hesitancy to post to any non-serious thread. I noticed that a game of SubJoe's has disappeared into the archives already, and I thought it was a nice challenge. The write-backwards story thread.

Ok, Sher, nevermind all the 'feelings' stuff. This is the second special apology to Gauche I've seen from you. Freaks me owt ;) . He'll tell you himself, "Never apologize". (I think it's his family motto, or his county's. )

I trust Gauche, who broke the sarcasm barrier, to recognize a sarcastic non-apology when he sees one.

I'm sooooo confused

But that's almost as normal as my being horny. (Maybe my friends should have nicknamed me Horn instead of Cat?)
A thread about threads? What are we? A group of seamsters? (Actualy that too takes a lot of imagination, as does our art of writing erotica.) My take on these threads are as follows;

Fast Threads, kind of like a bus load of Spring Breakers with Tequila. A lot of jumping on and off, not a lot of emotional content. (Usually) They go fast, but usually don't last that long.

Mid-speed Threads, more like your neighborhood bar where they know you. You come in and chat, sometimes about important things, sometimes not. Sometimes things get going fast and furiouse, sometimes they just kind of die out.

Slow Threads. This is more like taking someone special to the dunes with a bottle of Vino. The talk here is usually important, and sometimes even inspired. Yeah it moves along slow, mainly because everything is usually thought out. These have lasting impressions and seem to keep popping back up.

Like everyone here I try to stay with the first two, occasionaly I get into the thrid type. Also occasionaly I get stomped on. But then we all do. (I can remember my first couple of posts, I led with my chin and stepped on my dick.) I enjoy all three types, but have so far avoided starting one of the Slow Threads.

SeaCat
P.S. Good listing of the threads of the day.
