The Down Side of Vampires!

And when they get back to their roost, if one hasn't gotten a meal, another vampire bat spits up some of its dinner for the hungry one to consume.

Which explains why rabies spreads so quickly among a vampire bat population.

Actually, they're cuter than the Twilight EMO's but a lot more dangerous. Such is life.

And they don't suck blood, they lick it.

Yep...their saliva contains an anticoagulant so the blood continues to flow. Their fangs are so sharp the wound is virtually painless and they can feed until they're sated.

And it's a shame that so many ignorant people think all bats are vampires. Most of them eat insects and some are major pollinators. I like bats.

Bats eat a ton of insects every night...they're fascinating to watch feeding around streetlights or at a ball park during a night game...some of the fruit bats are huge...big as a small dog with a wing spread of 5 feet or more...very cool critters.

sometimes known to turn to humans for food, particularly in areas where their rainforest habitat has been destroyed

Geez, de-forestation is not only bad for the environment, but bad for blood loss too! I'm sure there is a slogan in there somewhere :)
