ok, i feel a little odd posting a thread here but i posted this in the gb and the response SUX!
this place has a reputation for being nice so...here i am.

a thread about the neglected/murdered child got me thinking.
we all spend too much effort ranting and not enough on changing things.

so, here's my thought. we all post links the charities that we do or will donate to {a regular monthly debit right from your account if you can fit it into your budget...only needs to be a few dollars/pounds...} then we can all pick one, or hopefully more and go without that one extra beer each week.

starting off with the one that i already do.
save the children
a uk registered charity that provides medical/food/educational aid to children all over the world.
builds schools, wells & futures. helps kids living with aids and kids living with war.

i promise to set up regular donations to two more causes.

This is a great idea, I don't know what response you'll get. I do regularly give to various charities. Usually the Red Cross and my local Food Bank, and Women's Shelter.

The playgrounders are nice because we do are best to treat everyone equally, no matter where they post, whether it here, GB, BDSM, or all the other available forums. That is why we are known for being nice.

I've been on the GB off and on, and been blantently ignored and ridiculed, no matter who those people were, once they posted here, they were still treated with respect from me, and everyone else they offended or slammed in the threads. That is the difference between playground posters and GB posters.

I'm sure there are people in the GB that give to various charities, and they just didn't respond to your thread, will you get a response that satisfies you. I don't know, but if not, don't think we aren't nice. We are, we just may not want to show what our left hand is doing with our right. One doesn't have to make a public statement of their giving to give, to show being nice.

I will however let you know that my arm hurts after donating blood! OUCH!!!!

Red :D

*hope to see you around the playground more often. :D

Dolfie, I hope your GB brethren dont treat you too disdainfully after posting among us "unclean" PG'ers. ;)

I regularly support Breast Cancer Care and Cancer Research UK, a cause I consider very worthwhile as I have lost family and I know friends who have lost family members to cancer.

no, that's not the idea of this thread. the idea is to post links and plug your favorite cause, hopefully spurring someone else to donate to it, and to maybe pick up another worthy cause to add to your donation list.

it's not about what we already do, it's about getting more to be done.

i don't mind rude people. it's a persons substance that matters to me.
rude and helping is better than polite and standing by...not saying that playgrounders aren't givers {i'm sure they are} just saying making a point about perceptions of nice.

ty for the welcome :)

You'll rarely find a rude one... (but... they do exist under the couches... we try to dust them off and reintroduce them into society... sometimes it works.... sometimes not)

And your welcome for the welcome. :D

Every playgrounder I have had the pleasure to know have been magnificient people. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of their company.

That being said...I try to donate money and time to gathering donations to the Leukemia & Lymphomia Society.

Hi Dolf, I'm glad you posted this here too. Lit is a neat place - lots of good people on all the boards. I have no doubt that your GB thread will have a better response as time passes.

I read that thread about Jeffrey... I don't think I can or will ever forget him. Here is the link should anyone like to read it. Tristesse was smart to put 'Warning' in the thread title, as it is a difficult read. I wish the warning could be to those who harm children.

I tend to give to small groups, whether it is time or money. I chose an organization for men, women, children, animals and learning. They're local for the most part but here is the list.

Pine Street Inn, a shelter for homeless men.

http://www.pinestreetinn.org/

Roseie's Place, a shelter for homeless women and children.

St. Jude's Hospital for Children, world renowned for cancer research.

My local animal shelter.

For learning I chose http://www.heifer.org/
It is such a sensible plan to help people...

thank you so much everyone :rose:

i'll look through your links and choose one to give to.

most of these ask for a tiny amount each month...i'm sure most of us could fit at least one more into our budgets.

{i posted here and still no rash has broken out...so that disproves one rumour ;)}

I'm glad you were able to dispell that notion Dolf. ;)

I absolutely love this one. I do the radio giving, but a monthly contribution is just as simple. This is a good thread, (and for those that are looking for other reasons to give... tax breaks also, if you keep your reciepts). I have never claimed them, but I do know that non-profit organizations often will be thrilled to give you a reciept so you can claim it on taxes.

Not sure... Just have to wait and see. Not everyone is home, but also, I'm not sure how quickly your thread will grow, it may be one that is only hit every once in a while, I have one like that concerning PM/IM's... it pops up every once in a while.

I didn't notice... did you link this in your sig?

The main charity I give to and donate is the British Heart Foundation, even got sponsored to do the London to Brighton bike ride two years ago :cathappy:

and by the way great idea of a thread
