I really hate when you take chance on brand that turns out to be crap. I've tasted vinegar that was better than some.

Usually the guy at the wine store gives decent recommendations. This one, not so hot. It's always a budgetary trade off too. If I get a few more expensive bottles in the case, I want to get some cheaper ones in there too to offset.

One of my go to brands just went up a couple of bucks a bottle, so I am searching.
On Gracie's recommendation, this one is Chateau St Michelle
$11/bottle.

So, left to right it is :)

I haven't ever tried the Carnivore, but a guy buying wine looked into my cart, tut tutted, and strongly suggested I put the Los Vascos back and take the Carnivore instead. I usually listen when someone is as passionate as he was. Ok, I sometimes listen ;)

And the Ravenswood is one of my favourite Zins, TC! I suggest you put the cabernet back and go for this Zin instead :D

Respectfully offering:

I keep the "hello vino" free app on my phone that allows me to search for a wine by name. It gives a quick rundown on flavors, tannins, etc.

So far it's led me true.

That's a great price point. I know there are good ones out there to be found at good prices. It's just finding them and then hoping there's more when you go back. Especially if it's not from a big corporate winery.

Those scruffy homeless guys know their stuff when it comes to wine ;)

Not fair, Abs. He might have shaved this week :p
And I suggest you put the cork right back in that bottle and cook up a beef stew this weekend. Then make your wine guy feel guilty, he might cut you a break.

Thanks, Gracie! I actually have some brie and a pear chutney that would be great with a spicy wine.

Oh, TC, I forgot to wax poetic about Old Vine Zins. I think they taste better. I also particularly like the vintners blend that Ravenswood makes, but if you try another brand look for the old vine stuff.

I agree about old vine, CnC.

Oh, please, cookie, sit and stay a while.
My bottle has enough for a couple of more glasses.
