1 oz vermouth
Bitters
Cherry and a wee bit of the juice
Now play with Candadian, Bourbon and Rye Whiskies, several possible vermouths and various bitters and you have hundreds of possible combinations. It's a labor of love.
My FIL got me into them years ago. Good man.

I was at the infamous Beer Night Riot at the Indians/Rangers game in 1974. The Indians were forced to forfeit the game after the fans became unruly. Billy Martin, the Manager and his players stormed the crowd on the field swinging baseball bats and folding chairs. There were streakers and strippers on the field that night. I'll never forget it. Though at 15 years old, I'd only finagled one beer.
