The Department of Government Efficiency (aka DOGE)

I recall in Yes, Minister, Hacker was in charge of the fictional "Department of Administrative Affairs." This sounds something like that.

Haven’t seen any details about budget, headcount, key roles. Sounds more like a commission or advisory council. A few people close to the executive tasked with recommending ways to cut waste, improve efficiency.

Big time conflicts of interest here.

I've heard ethics agreement is delaying a lot of the transition work already. 47 has t yet signed it.

Efficiency is like Motherhood, hard to attack and not an easy job. My guess is that Musk will hand over some limited cash to the States and hand that financing function to the finance department and sack thousands. The States will fight like cats in a sack for extra funding and the Feds will tell them to raise their own funds. It will be ugly. Some States will do it well, others, very very badly.

Expect the $1.5 trillion in outstanding Student Loans to be privatized - sans necessary audit standards. That disaster has the potential to get much worse.

You look out of your over spending gov department corner office window, and you see Elon walking up to your building carrying a sink, start packing up,your gone, LOL BYE

Well, the executive branch has been put together piecemeal over the centuries and a lot of it doesn't make sense organizationally -- e.g., NOAA is part of the Commerce Department. It might be an improvement if somebody systematically reorganized it along more rational lines.

I know one thing Leon will never throw out: the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standard...you know, the regulation that sez "cars have to have xx number of miles per gallon by 20xx"

Why?

Because Tesla's profits this year and last came almost exclusively from selling excess CAFE credits (remember, Tesla EVs don't use gas) to Detroit, because Ford's F150 that rednecks adore only get something like 16mpg city and 22mpg highway. Ford purchases credits from Leon to be in compliance. Pure profit for Leon.

Didja see Tesla stock blew through the roof on election day?

Pro-tip: it wasn't because of the four cent increase in earnings. Nope.

Remember, Trump likes Musk.
BUT Trump hates electric vehicles
BUT Trump also hates China more than electric vehicles.
Soooooo
Trump will likely put a 100-300 percent tariff on Chinese EV imports
and
Tesla will have much less competition until either Trump and Musk have a falling out (estimated date: June 2025) or Trump succumbs to dementia (estimated date: November 2026).

The only thing “Leon” will make more efficient, is the flow of money to his companies / pet Mars project.

That ^ , and efficiently ending regulations that affect his companies while simultaneously immunizing them and himself from financial liability and criminal prosecution.

Weakening the U.S. government will also be a nice little present for Putin, Xi, etc, from their authoritarian buddies, DonOld & “Leon”.

Fuck “Leon”. DonOld, and “DOGE” to hell.

👎

So two brilliant private sector business minds who not only get economics, but also wasteful federal spending in a government that’s crowding $40T of debt is a dangerous idea?

I think not.

A man who managed to bankrupt a casino, as a matter of fact. How does one even do that?
Well, there were four casino bankruptcies he drove into the ground.

All told, he had eleven bankruptcies and other failures.

On the bright side, he is now safe from Federal prosecution while President. There is that.

Did you look into the details of that particular bankruptcy to find out?

And when you judge someone's business success, do you judge the whole lot (ie: hundreds of businesses), or base your judgement on just a few hand selected examples that 'failed' by a specific criteria?
