Well I really enjoy Victorian era things and I like the dark even better...

Ok, so if the submissives are huddling in the corner and the doms are standing there with torches.....where does that leave us switches?

hmmm, ambiance...
Well, I have always been a big fan of candles or fireplace glows and of course you have to have music. Also, especially when blindfolds are imployed sensory textures can be so nice, like a nice fur rug or throw.

Well, that's a start at least.

My preference is for a room of moderate lighting .. Candles preferably..There is no substitute for a scene lit by flames..
Plus, having all that nice, hot, wax, close to hand can be very convenient.

Wallhangings if possible, Something dark and rich.(modern walls tend to cause too much reverberation.)

Something classical as far as music goes..I find that my tastes are returning to Chopin and Mozart for play music.
The nocturn that I know as Nocturn for violyn and piano (I'm sure it has another name)
Mozarts "Reqieum" toward the end ..as you reach the climax.

Deep rich dark colors all around. Dim lighting, quiet muffled type place earthy/wood scented. The type of place that gives you nervous butterflies but makes you feel peaceful at the same time.
Furnishings not comfortable but covered in fabric that is pleasing to the touch and the eye. Music playing somewhere far off, barely audible.

Hmm Furniture..

A St. Andrew's cross...large and very solidly built .. The wood stained dark to match the rest of the room.

Any hardware should be nice and shiny - but any padding should be a dull, soft black leather.

No scent to the candles... If scent is desired ..Frankincense..from the resin.

The floor should have soft carpet ..again ..to dampen resonence.

Though the above is a moot point .. since I will mainly be (after a certain point) enjoying the view and the music ..alone..Which is why the blindfold and the ear plugs are on the table...

Well I was thinking there could be candles on the walls. They'd be well spaced so that their's areas with dark shadow and areas that are well lit. The center of the room would have some over head lighting to make it even a bit more well lit. Over in the corner would be a roaring fire, with soft velvet couches and chairs around it, maybe even a (fake) bear skin rug in front. The floor could be cherry hard wood, so you get that nice shine, but with beautiful carpets scattered around. The music would be audible, but more of a tease to the senses. On one wall would be a bar, so you can get something to drink. Maybe some back rooms for . . . entertainment.

Put your furniture of choice in the middle of the room and light it with only strong spotligts, keep the rest of the room completely dark. Any pyl put within the lighted area should now not be able to see anything that is outside the lights. Select a few good friends that is good with bullwhips, spread out around pyl and use whips while you are all standing in the shadows. No music, no talking, no scent. Only the sound of whips in the air and the sound of the pyl.

Old money, I'm thinking a very large mansion with a nice full basement. Torchlit. Hmmm.. A winery, converted old monastery with aging cellars in the basement. Torchlit dungeon set up in the corner with the eye bolts attached to the stonework for bad little girls. The big oak aging casks throwing off the scents of wine and wood. Maybe a mouse or two scurrying around for effect.

All kinds of toys hanging from hooks on the walls. A swing for the really fun sex. Heavy, sturdy wooden table with restraints built into place. Leather cuffs with the wool padding on the inside. Lovingly oiled up and with a dull gleam in the torchlight. A bucket of fresh water and a drain in the floor because, let's face it darling. There is no place for you to relieve yourself down here and your chain only reaches so far. It's just going to be one play spot in my old monastery. There will be luxurious master bedrooms and hottubs and an old style library with fireplace and candles. All kinds of places in the gardens and the forest surrounding the estate.

Like some kind of suspenseful old movie or novel.
