there you go. sex, violence, art, and booze. the signs of a true culture.

HAH..

I understand what you are saying about the depth of ethnicity in Europe though..I wonder just exactly how closely related the Czech people and German people are related...My intuition tells me probably very very closely....like cousins or something...

I dont' know what percentage of Germans (of any ethnicity) might have Czech blood but the fact that 10 pct of the Czech population is German tells me that at least the Czechs probably have quite a bit of German blood in them as well...

Good, What an insult!
Moravian blood is not Roma Tulip!
The Moravians are the most sophisticated and cultured of all the Czechs not Gypsies!

I am Czech and a tiny bit Slovak-the Czech part being Moravian which in old times were the gentile class.

insults are good, aren't they?

Moravia is more than just a region of Czech gut is anagolous to say comparing the Corsicans to the French or the Basques to the Spanish. Moravia is an autonmous region with a slightly differing ethnic makeup that used to be an independant country at obe time in the distant past.

I wonder if the word "raving" has anything to do with Moravian...wonder if it's just a coincedance...

I can't wait to visit Czech someday as my mother has in the past. we have relatives there, one is a doctor and another is supposed to be the coach of the Czech pro soccer team or soemthing.
I hope I have as good luck in my future cereer endeavors as the prdigree on my Czech side who all went on to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, and high ranking military officers.

I've always wanted to visit Prague and Brno . I've heard that both cities are incredibly beautiful full of an active night life and comparatively inexpensive. I know I have family over there but not sure what they do or what not. Only seen some of them a few times...

*note to self: call grandmother and find out*

The women there are beautiful. My mother is this and keeps herself in shape and she even said she felt very self-aware and out of place there because all the women there were young, thin, and beautiful "like models or actresses." They are also supposed to be very fashionable and were the latest dresses and lingerie to accentuate thier already stunning beauty. :)

You see this is what confuse me when people ask me now what I am. I used to say Czech and again after the whole USSR government falling my one aunt insists I am Moravian. I think blue?? mentioned that there were like three cultures in that one country... or states.

Rumors from that half of the family is that there were some gypsies from my forefathers. Shrugs. There was also some artists and roylaty. Again if you dig far back enough you can find anything if you think about it. Also a lot of ladies men in the past.

From what I know about the ones that came to USA they were into gambling, drinking, the ladies et al. They were hard workers that came from farming families. I am 2nd generation US from that side and I know my father basically didn't subject my siblings and I into the culture for whatever his reasons were. I do now as I got older I would have loved to have learned the language. He still understands it but doesn't speak it. His parents raised him as an American.

Again no insults intended just sharing what I am.

Peace,
Tulip

A former cop friend of mine said that when they get those trained K-9 dogs they don't get them from Germany but from Czech ....the reason being is that those dogs are trained to respond to the words and many people speak German...Czech is "supposedely" a very very hard language to learn if you aren't raised with it and since very few know it, there's less risk of the K9 being confused with two different commands(from cop and suspect).

I heard a joke that the Czech language was the only one in which you can have a complete sentence without any vowels..

:D

I don't know about the rest of you

but I do know as a child not many of my peers knew what czech was. I mean if you think about it we do not have a St. Patrick's Day or a San Genero Feast (sorry for spelling).

It seemed to be cool if you were Italian or Irish and I was neither. Shrugs.

As I got older and to know my father's side I saw that there was a culture that he had excluded me from. In a way I also think it is because of population and what not.

Peace,
Tulip

Yeah it's not like the Czech people have been a major power for hundreds of years...... and I think the fact that the Czech Republic is a smallish country don't help...however we got PRAGUE! now that's a famous european city :D

Shrugs I am sure

that they are known for more things it is just not that well known and again with the whole three in one country it makes it confussing. It was always fun to have people attempt to figure out my heritage. They usually got the one half but couldn't figure out the Czech part.

I do have to admit when I saw this thread it shocked me because of lack of knowing others with the background.

Spoke to my father who spoke to my aunt it is Moravia.... Hroznova Lhota and Brun are towns or cities his parents came from. Beats me where it is so if anybody seriously knows of anything about either of those towns or cities feel free to share the information.

Peace,
Tulip

You may know his name in the christmas carol Good King Wencelsas

I just want to see the Czech Thread next to the Asian Thread.

Hi there. I am a mutt but I have more Czech blood than anything.
My g-grandparents came to the States from a village called Rhadiska (sp?) in the early 1900's.

According to my grandma my user name means sister. I wanted something different, but short and easy to remember. I just didn't elaborate on the purpose of this username lol
