The curious case of Sherlocks Heart (closed)

"That's convenient," Sherlock observed. He handed his bags over to the driver who in turn stowed them in the boot. Sherlock slid into the back, interlacing his fingers with Iara's as they relaxed on the way to the B&B.

The elderly man sitting in the car when they got in smiled.

So our little Iara has snagged herself a bit of a celebrity. A protector none the less. This is good... always good to know our little wildcat is safe.

Iara whispered to Sherlock

He is one half of the couple who runs the B&B most around here and all the shifter call them momma and Pappa. Now to see if his hearing aid is turned on.

Yes Pappa I am traveling with a protector same as you letting Jacob drive.

The old man just chuckled.

No momma doesn't let me drive any more

Sherlock nodded as Iara explained. Once the car was packed and the driver joins them in the car, Sherlock piped up. "Well, then. I'm glad you took time to come and get us. You didn't have to go out of your way on our account, sir." He said, trying to play down their importance. It felt unearned to him.

Oh we always get our Iara... little wildcat might shift and get lost as little housecat and my nephew here have to hunt her then becomes game and soon her visit over and no one see her. We know who you are. And you seem have very calming nature to her this is good.

Sherlock blushed a little about the effect he was having on Iara. "I'll try to talk her into visiting everyone while she is here, but I can't promise that I'll convincer her of anything." He said, smiling as he looked over at her. Sliding his hand into hers, they set off, rumbling over the village streets toward wherever they were staying.

She smiled and hugged him. Stepping from the car once they arrived at the B&B with an amazing view of the castle from their room. The room was very comfort-driven and with some amenities clearly for a shifter resident.

I love it here. We will probably seem momma at dinner time.

She was peaceful here. Much like she was around Mrs Hudson. This was family at least by choice. This was home... Safety and calm. Her smile relaxed and genuine.

Sherlock nodded. "I look forward to meeting her then." He said simply as he went through the process of unpacking his things and putting them away. He couldn't relax until it was done; he had to get things organized again so he could enjoy being here. As he finished, he couldn't help but notice the long stare from Iara as she looked out the window. Quietly, he walked over, slipping an arm around her from behind and resting his chin on her shoulder. "It really is lovely here," he whispered in her ear.

Outside of Mrs. Hudsons, it's one of the only places that has always felt like home.

She whispered and snuggled back against his embrace.

I spent lots of time as a child wandering the castle in the little house cat form.

Sherlock smiled. "Thank you for sharing this with me then. I hope you'll help me calm my mind to enjoy it." He said, already feeling his mind itching for something to do beyond lay in and relax. Iara may be lovely and a beautiful companion, but he knew his mind well enough to know that quiet relaxation never satisfied him.

Wanna explore the castle? Not the tourist tour but really explore the castle? The garden on that tower right over there is amazing.

Sherlock smiles wide. "I would love that. There's actually an interesting story about it and why it was placed where it is today." he begins to explain as he turns to pack a satchel for an excursion to the castle. Like so many times around the flat on Baker Street, Sherlock offers a small history lecture about the castle whether anyone but him wants to hear it or not. He and Iara are already on the street and well on their way to the castle by the time he finishes.

Yes I know and that flower garden I pointed out that's wrapped around the tower was built by William the Conqueror for his wife.

Iara smiles walking with him.

It was one of my favorite places to nap when I was a cub.

"It must have been so peaceful up there, away from everyone." Sherlock observed. As they near the castle, he simply reaches over and takes her hand. It feels so simple, so natural now. Something in the gesture feels so safe for Sherlock now.

Holding his hand she led the way. Once at the castle she nodded to the tour guides and they nodded back before she pulled him up the path that spiralled around the tower to a lovely little rose garden with a couple of benches.

Sherlock smiled as he finally saw the garden in person. Looking around, it was hard to deny the beauty of the colors on display. Walking to the bench, he helped Iara sit before he joined her. Relaxed on the bench, he slid an arm around her as he looked around. "It's so quiet. You forget how quiet it can be while living in London." He confessed.

Yes you can. The states can be even louder. That's maybe why I love it here so much.

She sighed calm and content curling against him a little.

"How long did you live there?" He asks, curious about her life now that they were getting closer. "Was it for your work or something else?" As they sit, Sherlock curls his hand around hers as they sit in the quiet breeze of the castle.

I sometimes travel to the States for... work.

She leans in a little curling closer laying her head on his shoulder.

There are some quiet places there but many of the cities would make London look like it took a vow of silence.

"Then, I'm glad you're home again for this. It sounds like you could use a long break from your old work." Sherlock observed. "Is that even possible?" He asks, curious about what's next for her. By now, he knows that what's next for her is next for him since he's not going anywhere without her.

Well my meeting with Her Magesty. Then enjoy life till the next demonic appearance and hope it's not a hive like this last time. It rarely is a hive normally it's just 1 or 2.

She smiled looking into his eyes

"Would you stay with me at Baker Street after you visit the Queen?" Sherlock finally asked, wondering if she would stay somewhere that long. She seemed capricious and enjoyed her freedom. But she seemed to care for him intensely already. Maybe she would agree and shock him.

She smiled to him and nodded

Yes. A permanent home would be nice.

She leaned close and kissed him softly on the cheek.

Sherlock's eyes widened. "Permanent? You'd really settle down with me? I thought your life would have you traveling wherever you were needed, always on the move. You're saying you can stay with me as long as you want?" He asked, seemingly incredulous that she would choose life with him.

All I do is travel living half the time as a stray housecat all over the world where ever needed because I never did have a truly permanent location.

She sighed.

Yes Mrs Hudson has always offered but she uses that property as her sole income so I guess I always hoped she would rent out that room.

You sound however like you do not like my answer?

"I do... I just... I wonder if you'll be happy with my quiet life... well, quiet 80% of the time. The other is solving devilishly clever murders and dealing with criminal kingpins bent on governmental overthrow..." He adds, trying to regain some of his confident tone again. "Can you be happy in a quiet flat with me and my small circle?"
