The curious case of Sherlocks Heart (closed)

I guess shoes would help.

She shrugged taking his arm curling close. I don't really know what to do. Maybe just walk around and relax. Answer any questions or talk about things you don't wish to discuss in front of John or Mrs Hudson?

Sherlock nodded at the last option. "I suppose there is a lot we should go over. As you've surmised, I prefer to keep my personal life to myself. Public displays are still foreign to me and make me uneasy. I'm not saying I can't be convince otherwise, but I hope you're on board for a longer process to adapt to this new relationship. Our moment in the shower is not something I would do, especially with the others in the house. I don't want to wave that part of my life in their face out of respect for them. Now whenever we are social, I can feel their embarrassment and mine."

Sherlock stopped and turned to face her. "Just as you want me to come out of my shell, I hope you will respect that it will not be an overnight change. Fair enough?" He asked, hoping he was making his point in a way that it would land without being an accusation of wrongdoing.

Yes, that's all fine Sherlock we don't have to do anything at all but if you are curious they are not embarrassed. Surprised... A little confused... But very veryhappy for you. The confusion is more Mrs. Hudson towards me. After all last time I ever dealt with anyone outside of business I ended up in a lab.

You seemed curious about Clarence when he arrived.

"I'm glad you're willing to try again. Something like that might turn you off from future relationships. I can assure you I have no plans to lock you up in a lab. The overhead costs are outside my budget," He teased, unable to help himself.

The mention of Clarence did give him pause. "It showed an organization amongst your kind that I was not prepared to consider. As with anything new, I am intensely curious and look forward to see how your society function firsthand. I'm assuming Clarence has a humanoid version or is he content to stay a corvid all day?"

In human yrs Clarence is in his 90s. He was once a gardener there at the palace and he was allowed to remain and live there when her Majesty learned of what he was.

She started up at the sky for a moment.

When mom was alive and this was her job when I was a cub he and I would play around the gardens. Him flying about and me running along. Helped with learning stalking and hunting.

Sherlock nodded. His picture of these animal shifters was growing with each piece of information. He was hungry for more as he always was. "Is this purely British Isles situation or are there more of your kind throughout the continents? I can't imagine the Americans keeping this quiet." He observed as they walked along the street.

I work over there as well with less mortal knowledge than here. Shifters can hide there with ease because of all of their federally protected land as well as state and national parks. Heck, some are content in zoos and circuses as well.

She smiled as they walked glancing at the various shops as they went. Finally finding the shoe store she motioned looking at the ones in the window first.

Sherlock walked up and stood beside Iara, participating in some window shopping. Taking the private moment, he slid an arm around her and held her gently to his side. It was a big step for Sherlock. Such a display of affection was not his usual move, but all their talk about it had him thinking about it more and more.

He processed what she said and it made his brow furrow. "Those that choose to remain in zoos, they don't find it confining, prison-like?" He asks, unsure how he would feel in such a situation.

Normally they are older or... Know their tempers or some follow their animal born children to keep them safe.

She purred a little at his embrace. A soft purr to encourage or reward him for such a big step.

Sherlock smiled and pulled Iara a little tighter against him as he heard her purr of approval. He could feel that there was so much more to learn about her and her kin, but it would not all be unveiled on an afternoon shopping trip. Still, he was curious about something. "Is that your choice for retirement? I'm not sure if you've ever thought that far in the future, but you can't be the hunter of demons forever." He posits, curious about her reaction to such a far off thought.

Retirement? Never thought about it. Never had reason to. Then again never had someone else to teach to replace me to even consider it.

She shrugged and smiled feeling him pull her closer.

What does retirement look like for you?

Sherlock sighs. "I suppose, when my body can't keep up with my mind, I'll find solace in passing on what I've learned to the next generation. We can't have a Scotland Yard full of Lestrades running around; crime would run rampant." He jibes at the man even though he's not here. "If I can help someone see the world as I do, I think that would be legacy enough." He adds, thinking about what he's really after.

Well just so you know they have a pretty good track record without you. They call you in on very select cases. As for passing on your mond and how you think to another generation. You want to be a teacher. A profession that in modern climate means you have to be polite caring kind and understanding of others emotions and feelings. Compassionate to any difficulties they have in learning what you might think is the easiest of things but to them.it might not be.

Sherlock wrinkled his nose as she laid out what is needed in a teacher. "If that's what it takes, I'd rather write a book about it." He grouses, shaking his head at the idea he was even considering it.

"What else should we handle while we are out? I'm in no rush to get back to Mrs. Hudson and John's judgmental eyes." He asked, wondering if they were going in or just sticking to window shopping.

She nodded and sighed a little this worry about their reaction to the two of them together. She walked into the store and showing them the dress.

Shoes for this.

The salesman paused a moment at the delivery of the request but nodding and motioned for them to follow him. Taking the first pair he showed her to go with it and looked to Sherlock with a smile.

Now what?

Sherlock turned and offered his arm again. "I'm not sure. You have an outfit and shoes for it; what else do you really need to visit Buckingham?" he asked, guiding her to the door and out to the street again. Again, he seemed determined to stay out without going back.

What's wrong?

She stopped dead in her tracks her unnatural strength digging in and holding her ground intently.

Sherlock stopped and looked back at her. "Do we have to go back? Is there someplace you like to go to get away from people?" He asked, feeling the excitement and drain of the day catching up with him.

I don't think taking the dress and shoes would be a good idea where I go.

She shrugged but deep down wondered if he felt this was some sort of horrible secret or something to be ashamed of feeling maybe due to what she was.

Sherlock nodded. "Well, I suppose it can't be avoided any longer then. Let's head back to Baker Street. I'm sure news of what happened at the shop has reached Mrs. Hudson if I know Lestrade at all," he sighed. Inside, Sherlock was dying a little as he was convinced that Mrs. Hudson and John will be overly emotional about what transpired or use it as a wedge for why their relationship is dangerous or some other over-reaction.

At least just to drop this stuff off. Then we could go again wherever.

She smiled a little to him.

Sherlock smiled. "I would like to spend more time, just you and I. It might be a little early in the day, but I'd love to go someplace you enjoy for the afternoon." He offered, turning and leading them both back toward Baker Street with their haul for the day.

Well outside of the roof... Warwick.

She shrugged and smiled to him. So perhaps maybe just the countryside somewhere away from people.

Sherlock nodded. "That sounds like a lovely idea. I hope we don't get sidetracked when we get back to Baker Street." He said, not seeming to notice the possible double meaning. Making the turn, he walked along the street before opening the door to 221B for Iara before stepping in with her.

Taking the clothing in she nodded to Mrs Hudson and turned to go.

Well then to the countryside? Where?
