The Crafting Thread - Show Us What You've Made!

I finally started crafting again. This is a prototype for a snowflake Christmas ornament. I'm going to work on the bead placement with the next ones I make, but I don't think this one turned out half-bad, considering I was kinda winging it with the beading. (I did have a pattern to follow for the snowflake itself, though.)

I love it!
It looks different than the pattern I use, which is cool because I always hate then snowflakes are the same, since real ones are never the same, so I intentionally make mistakes and mis counts in them when I make them ....
😏😋😂

I really should learn to read (and execute) patterns. These are really sweet and I wonder if I’d be able to make one as well, maybe a little larger one to hang on the front door.

I don't see why not! I used regular yarn and a 5.0 mm hook. I would think if you used chunky or super chunky yarn plus a larger hook, you could get one the size you wanted.

(If you ever need help with pattern-reading, I'll be glad to help if I can!)

Thanks! Maybe I’ll give this a go. I have black chunky yarn, so I could easily test it. A black snowflake could be a commentary on climate change or pollution or something. 😁

I picked up my knitting project from ages ago. It’s socks for J. I finished one back in the day and I’m now working on a pair for it, but after a break of over a year from knitting, I’m struggling a lot. I regret my choices.

Like why didn’t I just make the first sock smooth in the first place? Why did I ever decide to make stripes with purls on top of the foot? It’d be so much easier if I could just knit knit knit like the wind. Damn those purls. And why did I think it’d be fun and whimsical if the stripes weren’t all the same width? It’s just damn tedious to try to make a matching pair. Sigh.

Oh, man, that sounds like something I'd do and also regret later. I hope it comes together for you as easily as it possibly can!

Well I couldn’t make heads or tails of the pattern Bunny linked, because I just don’t understand what those words are.

I went down the rabbit hole of figuring out how the crochet words I know relate to the American terminology and it was…weird. And then there was that issue of starting with a magic circle which is some higher level witchcraft to me because whenever I try it, I end up with a knot and not with something crochet-able.

So in the end I recruited my friend to help me, because she’s good at knitting and crocheting. Yesterday, on the breaks between movies at a film festival we were at, she taught me to crochet a snowflake. She even had white yarn that she graciously brought me. It’s not perfect, it was the first time I did many of the things, and it’s not the same pattern Bunny made.

It’s about 20 cm/7.5” across. I think I should have used a bit larger hook for the yarn to make the pattern a little clearer, but I only had the one hook with me yesterday.
