First results on the search for the Higgs boson are in. Apparently several mass ranges have been decisively ruled out.
 
Did Earth once have two moons?

The appearance of the near side of the moon, always facing us, is considerably different from that of the far side.

A theory that there was once two moons orbiting Earth and that one impacted the other, might explain the difference. As well as explaining why the moon is a bit lopsided, it could account for the difference in chemical composition of the two sides.
