Warning: the following article contains spoilers for The Boys Season 3, Episode 5: "The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies"
The Boys Season 3 claps back at fans who don't understand the series' political satire.
Broderick, in an extensive thread, revealed that the subreddit page has become "chaos" in response to The Boys' Donald Trump/Homelander parallels. "Threads getting locked, users rage-deleting whole accounts. It's amazing. Right-wing users are whining about "no politics," but it’s impossible to talk about the show without them now. Fans who thought Homelander was cool are in a meltdown," he wrote. Broderick also speculated that these users know Homelander is a villain, but wanted to see "a tragic Homelander backstory so they don't have to reflect on why they were so drawn to the character in the first place."
Showrunner Eric Kripke recently admitted that former United States President Donald Trump was always a primary influence on The Boys' sociopathic leader of The Seven. Kripke described Season 3's Homelander as "this really combustible mix of complete weakness and insecurity, and just horrible power and ambition" who resents anyone holding him accountable for his actions. He also called "white-male victimization and unchecked ambition" major themes of the season, as well as toxic masculinity, represented by Soldier Boy, The Boys' satirical take on Marvel Comics' Captain America.

Season 3 sees Homelander, after a year of being blackmailed by The Boys, Starlight and Queen Maeve, break down and unleash a verbal tirade on live television. To his surprise, the meltdown produces a spike in Homelander's approval ratings, emboldening him to kill Starlight's ex-boyfriend Supersonic and oust Vought CEO Stan Edgar through a deal with Congresswoman Victoria Neuman, effectively putting him in charge of Vought.
